So much has changed, but the Jack in the Box is probably still there and looking exactly the same. Maybe they haven't even mopped the floor since that photo was taken. |

Checking Google Street View, it appears that the World Gas station is now an Exxon and the corner occupied by the Kendon Valley VW dealership is now occupied by Yoshinoya and Quzno's fast food joints along with a mini-mall. It looks like the now-defunct Saturn dealer is on the north side of the street.

Either that, or the JITB moved diagonally across the intersection! |

Dealership in East Moline, Illinois, is now an auto body shop. Until the past few years, they kept the huge VW logo/sign on the side of the building. Not sure when it closed or what's happened to that sign... |

You're right. Galpin was always there. Wrong side of the street. I guess that makes it Galpin Mazda? |

I don't know. Galpin's Saturn dealership in Santa Clarita now seems to be a used car lot for all the other Galpin dealerships. The valley dealership probably is the same. |

What I thought was Galpin Saturn was always a Galpin dealer. What I mean is that what you found on Google maps shows the old Kendon place as Galpin Mazda now. |

Did it extend that far west along the south side of the street? The early photo is of the corner where the mini-mall is now.
(yes, I know, splitting hairs, but what the heck... :) ) |

Yes, it started at the corner. The access to the parts department was off the street on the west side.
I remember they had a sign after you passed the cashier window with Clint Eastwood pointing his magnum in your face, with the caption "Please Pay The Cashier." |

hey Glen, there was Walri in Bayshore on Sunrise, Walters-Donaldson's in Hicksville and George-Dalton in Smithtown and Riverhead
Walri??? Never heard of it.
Walters-Donaldson folded and Donaldson moved to Sayville and also sells Subaru. http://www.donaldsonsvw.com/
George-Dalton is not Smithtown Volkswagen http://www.smithtownvw.com/
Riverhead VW is still in business http://www.riverheadbayvw.com/
Walri became Bayshore VW which used to be on Sunrise hwy and Brook Av south side and west of Brook ave, closed in about 1997-98, but Donaldson's got the point and moved it to Sayville then in the same building LI Cycle and Marine moved in there in 2001-2008 they went under as well |

What was one Birmingham, Alabama's first official VW dealer, Roy Bridges Motors, is now Children's Hospital parking deck :(
I'm trying to find an old picture of the dealer but have not been successful so far. There has to be one somewhere, it was open for about 30 years. |

Jack Feely VW: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/dealers/jackfeely_redlands_ca.php
is now Tom Bell Chevrolet. Tom Bell happens to own this chevy dealer, the Ford dealer, toyota, chrysler/jeep/dodge/mazda/lincon/mercury. their service and sales practices are questionable at best...
i can actually remember that VW dealership being there when i was a kid. that was probably over 15 years ago. |

I forgot to post this:
A rubbing of the remnants of my dealer sticker. It sucks that there is no exact address for Glass Motors... |

I can't find any images of the old Volkswagen Dealership that used to be on 1201 North Lamar Boulevard in Austin, katty-corner from the Tavern.
On Memerial Day, 1981, Shoal Creek flooded. The Beetle was of course no longer being retailed in the United States then, but about seventy-five percent of the dealership's business was still in air-cooled Volkswagens, used cars and repairs, and vehicles parked on the roof of the dearlership (it was a load bearing roof, backed up to steep hillside, accesible from a ramp) were washed into the Creek, and floated a good distance.
I can't find any old photos of the dealership on the web; nowadays it is a strip center, with false castellations on it, to echo the old Castle-themed military school which still stands on top of the bluff, giving it the name of Castle hill. I think, underneath the gingerbread, the old dealership building is still there... |
