Drop spindles on with disks, 2" narrowed adjustable beam in dead middle position, the suspension isn't compressed all the way because he didn't have a chain. The Tire is just an extra snow tire we had laying around.

I always try and put the best available parts on mine. German made you can almost not go wrong.

Which disk brake kit do you get?
Those wheels already look good on the first fitting.

slafa Fri Feb 13, 2009 5:18 pm

It's an Empi kit, back in the early eighties which was the last time I messed with Ghia's, Empi was the shizzle or more likely the only game in town. I had no idea until after we made the first big parts grab that they had such a bad reputation with so many VW gurus.

I was stoked with how the wheels looked too, without any tweaking.

70coupyel Fri Feb 13, 2009 6:40 pm

Have you tried the rear yet? So for the rear are you going to use the shorter axles(per other thread)?
Whats the offset on those wheels? (I could look it up,I'm lazy right now).
What size tires are you thinkin now?

Edit:found this
http://www.autopartsfair.com/porsche-wheels_rims/catalog-item-4805.html
16 x 7 with a 40mm offset.
Or did you get the 16 x 6
http://www.wheelsrims.net/porsche-boxster-inventory.html
If the 16 x 6 are 40mm offset, then those would be so sweet for a Ghia 8)

slafa Fri Feb 13, 2009 7:13 pm

We have the 16 x 7" for the rear with 40mm offset, as far as tires I am sooo open for advice on that, are there problems with the 7"? I love the Bader ghia stance but understand the fact that there is only so much you can do without winning the lottery... also we have the '63 short axle and havent gone there yet...

Just found this thread and I am doing a roadster also.
I am welding 1X1 tube in it tonight to support the frame.
Doors are tacked shut right now.
Perhaps we can learn from each other

Sounds great, we stalled a bit (wifes ex started a custody battle, boy is that fun) but started on the rear suspension/discs this week. Are you doing your reinforcement similar to the Sain ghia? I would love to see pics of it as thats the next step for me after suspension is in.

F4u5T Wed Apr 29, 2009 5:46 pm

No, I'm gonna try 1x1 tubing on the bottom of the pan, there is a lip that runs along the outside and 1x1 tube fits inside perfect - just need longer bolts to replace the one there now. Ive been told it works great, Ill let you know....
Ive been thinking more about what to do with the gap in the rear. Ive seen where alot of peple just cover it with fabric, which is fine I guess....
Check this one out though, it is pretty awesome.

Yeah I like that ghia too, that guy has a video on you tube of him driving around, this is the link but they have disabled the audio which is too bad because it sounded really cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4p6FY7NwHOs

send pics of your frame support job if you can, I would like to see it, do you do any welding or just bolt it in?

F4u5T Wed Apr 29, 2009 8:04 pm

Its just 1x1x52 tube with holes every 200mm starting 25 mm from the rear end.
Remove the bolts in the pan, insert the tube and install with 1inch longer bolts
I'll post pics later - I couldn't find the longer bolts tonight ( they should be 8mm x 1.00 x 50mm

cool, i will look forward to the pics, i took the ghia to the Bodyshop today to get the body off the pan. I am building a dolly today so they can be in the same stall once removed. Here is a pic with the rear wheels on, the engine is out and I havent lowered the rear end yet so we have stinkbug effect   :D

 :P

Pics of the car dolly I built today. 8)

Man, I love those wheels.
here is the current state of mine, and yes sadly it IS pink ( right now ) will be Ferrari red Im thinkin.
the second pic shows the rail I was gonna use to stiffen the middle, however now after I have pulled the body off and in process of replacing the pan I am thinking it would be best to make the bar run all the way to the front.
The replacement pans I have are kinda flimsy, compared to the orig ones.

I have not touched the suspension yet, did you make you beam adjustable yourself - thats gonna be next for me I think

Looking good :D Looks like a pretty simple operation to reinforce after the body is off, I like the look of the Boxter rims too and I got them for just under $400 for the set so they didnt set me back too much. I wanted to go with boxter S wheels but they are larger and I would have had to get two sets of fronts and as I looked for them I found it would run about a grand so I opted for these, they fit better overall anyway.

I bought a new adjustable beam, I had no Idea how to convert one and I am not a mechanic, I painted cars for years and have done plenty of body work but when it comes to engines and suspensions and such I am pretty inept

F4u5T Wed May 06, 2009 2:14 pm

where did you find the rims, I thought they were much more ....

anyway you could get a few pics of the rear of the car, where it was cut.
I cant seem to decide how to finish it, what are you gonna do?

slafa Wed May 06, 2009 4:41 pm

got the rims on ebay, they usually are more but I got a deal, that 400 doesn't count the $100 I paid for shipping.

I thought this treatment is decent, I would go with leather to match seat color, also you could fabricate a fiberglass arch shape to go under the leather to continue the body lines similar to the yellow one you liked.

slafa Wed May 06, 2009 4:48 pm

Also, my car had a roll bar in it and you can see from the photo that the guy who owned it put snaps all around the outside for some sort of soft top that went up and over the roll bar. I am not planning on any sort of top, I like it clean... 8)

F4u5T Wed May 06, 2009 4:57 pm

good deal on the wheels, even with shipping!

judging from the pic, looks like your moving MUCH quicker than I am.
paint looks awesome

slafa Thu May 07, 2009 7:51 am

Nooo! Ha, that pic is from somebody elses car, it's the car I am kinda patterning mine after. There is a pic of that car earlier in this thread, I really like how it turned out mine is about 6 months to a year from that status and thats if life doesn't get in the way. Here it is:

I have more build photos from this car but I cant upload them for some reasonright now

F4u5T Thu May 07, 2009 2:52 pm

Yea, I found alot of the build pics for that one on some general car site, Ill email em to ya if you want. I think I have 15-20 showing the frame support, pre-paint.....
I like that car also but, Im not sure how easy it would be to have the windshield cut ( I dont even have a windshield yet) and I dont care alot for the way it is supported
