very nice job on a very nice bus

Thanks guys, the deal turned out way better than expected.

As for the brake parts, probably not mine. I did end up getting some parts from Mr. Johnson but I think he said someone else was also working on a 57? I thought I had all the parts needed to do a complete brake job and it wasn't until I took the right front apart that I noticed I didn't have any front wheel cylinders. I called Johnson's and he said he would call me back. In the mean time I called Ronnie at Bustoration and he was out of the right side ones until later in the week. WW doesn't have any early fronts. Johnson's called me back and said they only had the right side, no lefts. Worked out great because I only had the right side apart. That's why the partial brake job.

Wow! That's a clean bus!!

What a great story and good score on the bus! I started reading this thread and didn't realise it was an old thread, got locked, then unlocked and you are now the owner. 8)

Has he still not cashed the checks? That's really funny.

Also, the first part of the thread spoke of a middle seat but your newer photos only show the rear????!!!!! Was it included with the deal or is it MIA?

I guess I can throw away my print off with GPS for where this was in McCarthy lol. I was wanting this thing for about two years but never had the cash for it. Congrats!

Yes, the show on the Discovery Channel on McCarthy is hilarious (Edge of Alaska)... "keep them crazy tourists out", no stop light in town :2gunfire:

Hey Jason. Hey Randy. Jason, thanks for all that excellent beer. After 366 days going beerless it was pretty damn good! No need for the coordinates Randy, hope to drive up this summer.

The middle seat is indeed MIA. I did manage to get a correct flat back middle from the very nice couple in Olympia. No idea how I'm going to get the two pieces together yet. The original seat is supposed to be around somewhere but as we can see, Ward is not the quickest guy on the planet. He did finally cash the checks. Second one first. About a week later the first one. Probably misplaced the first one since it was almost six months from the time I sent it!

Here's a shot of the front seat. Not too bad. Since this photo was taken I've buffed the dash. The rust streaks are all gone and it polished up nice. In fact I buffed almost the entire exterior. Bondo chunks dropped out in a couple places and the palm green is bleeding through all over.

Thats awesome man! Congrats! I am probably going to buy a local March of 57 bubble light pg/ sg standard so I am looking at all of the threads for tips and ideas. Ive never had anything pre- 58, so it'll be new...

Cool Story!

Pulled the engine and fuel tank a few days ago to do several repairs in the engine room and do a little cleaning up back there.

While the engine was out I replaced one transaxle boot, both rear soft brake lines, battery cable, fuel filter and valve. The new fuel valve leaks worse than the original! It only leaks while in the reserve position so, I left it for now and will replace it again next time the engine is out. Bummer though. Ironically, I put a gallon of gas in the the tank and let it sit overnight before installing it to check for leaks at the threads. Didn't think to check all three positions. Also, lubed the choke and reserve cables and chased the threads on the clutch cable.

After getting the bus driving again I decided to try my luck at getting some of the original paint back. Here's how she looks today. I used Goof Off Graffiti remover and rags to wash the paint off then polished it with Turtle Wax Polishing Compound. Everything done by hand.

Small amount of putty in the lower nose is all I found so far.

Nice, I hope the sand green comes out as nice as the palm green!

Love to see a closeup shot of the pinstripes.

KombiMadness Wed Apr 29, 2015 12:31 am

Wow, great job on the paint. It looks fabulous! That engine compartment looks so clean and rust free.....

Hard to believe that survived so well. Your hard work shows. Did you already describe the light roof?

kombisutra Wed Apr 29, 2015 11:41 am

WOW! That bus is out of control! Great story!

silvertonguedevil Wed Apr 29, 2015 9:58 pm
