Ronnie, why not just change out the gearbox for one that has the right gears? It's not that big of a chore (with your straight axle setup) and most transmission shops will put together any R/P and gear stack you want......just saying since you'll have the engine out anyway.

Time. Rancho offered to build me a trans geared to the engine. I believe the gear stack is good in the trans I have just didn't have the power to pull it, now with twice the HP and torque it might work (at least on paper). The purpose of the smaller tires is to just lower the ratio a little to pull a little higher rpm's in each gear. I need to maintain 6000 to 6500 rpms in each gear. Plus if the new kombo works and I accomplish what I have set in my mind for the 36hp class I can then put the taller tires back on and put a big block in it to try for the 130 club!!!

Multi class racing is not a big problem when you have a few days to do the tuning and swaps, which is one of the fun things about running at Bonneville.

Good luck Ronnie..................

Picked up my Engine from Geoff Hart (no more dyno time) and getting ready to install it in the bus.

PREP your VW for the salt, 1 lug nut rusted on, shift rod coupler rusted and a lot of PB blaster to get things apart and I pressured washed it for hours after last years adventure.

Got a few different sizes of tires for the rear to see which works the best.

Got the new steering wheel adapter test fit and need to machine the center of the steering wheel to fit over it.

Once I get the beam ib the Blavk Mamba shifter from Vintage speed Taiwan will go in

Hopefully a test drive this weekend and load on the trailer.

Very cool, Ronnie!

What all are you bringing out this year? The Bus, I know. Is the supercharged Vee going to make an appearance?

The VEE isn't making it. I am still working on the engine, a ton of r/d has gone into it and I still have a ton on machining to do on the intake system..
The SC is coming with me with the 124 hp 36 hp in it and I'm going to try and get last years engine upgraded, but running out of time. Work and fun just don't seem to mesh

Matthew, if you think work and fun are the same thing, confused does not begin to describe your condition!

But now that I think about it, I completely understand your statement.............

I love working on VW's everyday, but when they cut into MY FUN, well you know. But I need to work on others VW's in order to pay for MY FUN, it's a give give situation

Went 86.663 mph with the 1582 IDA engine, some gear changes for next year and a cam upgrade will hopefully push me to 100mph in a bus with a 36hp based engine

100 mph = over 160 km/h in an old bus with a 36hp based engine. Now that would be something!
