Yes, Yes, it it is!!!

Bob managed to find and procure another used starter from the "Wolfe Warehouse of VW Parts."

In Stock and Functioning!!

So he got it installed, after "Wolfie" had sat out there cooling down for a few hours. So hopefully no more "Get yo' momma to push the car!"

Then we ate the wonderful homecooked meal that Marilyn had prepared for us.

Marilyn got to show off "Wolfie's" new look to several of her neighbors, who popped by. They'd seem him in his former state, and she'd been telling them about how good he looks now.

Then we sat around chit chatting for quite a while, until fatigue got the better of us. We all turned in early.

That was our first full 8 hours sleep we'd gotten since we started this little adventure. Woke up this morning to a balmy 67 degrees.

We've already had breakfast, Marilyn Always makes sure we Never go away hungry! We'll be heading for home shortly, It's supposed to get to around 100 degrees here today. We should arrive home sometime later tonight.

Evening All,

Well, we're finally home, safe and sound. Bob and "Wolfie" got us from Marilyn's to here in his standard 10 1/2 hrs. The outside temps weren't too bad, but a bit warmer than yesterday, probably in the mid 80's.

But as Dave Pallo mentioned, the wind made driving a chore. It was buffeting us around all day, it didn't finally settle down until we were about 50 miles from home.

Compared to poor Toby, our trip was uneventful. We won't know until later, whether we got "the last of the good" out of the second starter. At our second to last fuel stop, "Wolfie" wouldn't restart with the key, but did after Bob "jump started" it at the battery. So did we choose a second starter with a "dead spot?" Dunno, but we didn't turn off the motor until we got him safely in the garage at home.

Other than that, "Wolfie" ran flawlessly today!

Our thoughts and prayers are with those left to deal with the raging fires in the Colorado Springs area!

We are sure Russ is looking down from a far, far loftier perch than this:

Remembering the car like this, when he put it into Bob's capable hands:

We're sure he's smiling, knowing it made it to the Invasion and home again:

We ALL miss you Russ!

No. No, No, No!!! I could get it IF I wanted to, but I'm not interested in having a bus. Right now, we've got 4 t-3s here, and we're happy with them. 8) Besides, I'm a type 3 guy, not a bus dude.

Yeah, who doesn't want a bus??
Bob, you and Sue would look like great in a bus.

Suesanctuary Fri Jun 29, 2012 12:23 pm

Oh, you guys!!!

The paint is 'barely dry' on "Wolfie" and you're all raring to go to get Bob into a "new" project!

I think he's ready for a little break, besides, we can't take "the bus" to a Type 3 Invasion. We'd have to park it in an outer lot, like Chad, to be "ostracized" by the T3's present.

Anyone heard from Chad or the other locals, to see how they're fairing?

We did see one bus on the second leg homeward bound, but I'll have to wait for Bob to tell me which catergory it fits in, before I can post it.

If you're interested in the bus, I'm sure we could pass your info on to Marilyn. She has been working on getting rid of the "lawn art!"

where did the invasion shirt we all signed end up? was that a gift to the Ronald house people or did Marilyn get it? I never asked who it was for.

John buys himself an extra t-shirt for every Invasion, and gets everyone present to sign it. He keeps it as a souvenir for himself. Pretty neat idea, I think he had the past years ones hanging from the pop-up canopy, near the little stand of trees by the cars.

Yay I made the list! Sue, if you guys send me the radio back I'll look at it. I might have to redesign the breakout box.

What an inspirational journey this build has been. I'm so happy that Wolfie made it to the Invasion and back safely. Just really sorry I wasn't able to be there. Maybe I'll see you at the next one in my own 34? Stranger things have happened!

turbomicrowaves Sat Jun 30, 2012 12:21 am

What, I didn't make the list?

IAMIROY Sat Jun 30, 2012 7:33 am

Bob, your ghia sure looks good on the road. That picture of you and Sue driving to the Invasion (can't find the pic now) makes me appreciate the T34, especially in the stock configuration.

Great job!

I thought I was into Karmanns (and maybe Beetles) until I somehow ended up co-owning a '74 Bus (at a price of a lot of welding) and inherited a '61 Kombi. :)

Things happen, you know?

Sorry if I neglected to "single you out", but you are a Sambanista, correct? I did offer my apologies in advance! Two years is a long time to keep track all those folks who have been so helpful. Sorry about that!
