Again, sorry for the delay, we've been dealing with a sick kitty cat.... and only a month after our son had to have his beloved kitty put to sleep- it's been a rough month....
Any way, yes, yes, pics please!
"Wolfie" showing off his new Bling!
Look how dusty it is already!!!
Ah, that's better, he cleaned 'em up for these photos!
Enjoy!
This is so nice to see.
It seems like such a short time ago looking back. I was standing in Russ's garage talking to him about Bob getting this car and how he would restore it. What a fast forward I just had.
Thanks

Lotsa love lavished. :D I don't think I'll be doing another one too soon after doing that one. Rust repair on my 65 Notch, and some minor work on the 71 Square-Vert yes, but no restos in my immediate future. |

Oh, and here it was that I was thinking about Labor Day weekend 2010, when you helped me remove the front and rear windows. That happened about a week before the body got seperated from the pan. Then the next day, we were at John's helping him on his Lead Sled project.
Hard to believe that was less than 3 years ago. It looks so much better today, than it did back then. |

Sure does look real good today. I don't even remember taking the glass out. I probably would if I broke it, so I guess it was safe enough.
I have only been back to MI once since then. Flew to Ann Arbor for 2 days for work and right back out.
Glad I got to do those things then. I really enjoyed those times and also some other projects I got involved with along since.
It would be nice to have a large collection of my own but really great to have been involved with some cool cars.

*bump* (Doncha just hate it when someone dredges up a long-dormant thread? :P )
I just finished reading this thread straight through, and it is a remarkable journey from what I saw at Russ's place, to the showroom-fresh-looking driver you've got now. Really a great job, and I know Russ would be proud. :D
Give me a holler next time you pass through eastern Iowa! |

Thanks. It was a bunch work to get it looking that good.
Right off hand, I don't have any plans to go west on I-80, but when I do, I'll give you a shout. |

Tink! Tink! Tink!
Here'e a blast from the past....
Hello Folks,
Time to write the final chapter of our adventures with "Wolfie."
Though we enjoyed our time with him (Wolfie), and truly cherish our memories of Russ, Bob rebuilt "Wolfie" to be driven. That just wasn't happening enough here, "too many irons in the fire," " horses in the stable," however you wanna say it.
So......
Oct. 30, 2014
Here's our "boy," all grown up, with his bags packed, ready to start a New Adventure....
Sittin' at the "Bus Stop:"
An aside:
Keeping in mind that it's an older, manual trans auto, plus the fact that there is no "flatbed style floor" to this trailer, just two "country lane style tracks," that if they were any wider apart, "Wolfie's" travels would've been delayed! He " inner edge" tire rubbed (both sides) all the way up, and I'm sure all the way down! After several failed attempts, the guys finally asked Bob to try it. It was a Hair-Raisingly Tight Fit!!!!
Snaggin' the Front seat on the "bus:"
"Wolfie's" Newest Adventure Begins:
Happy Trails "Wolfie"
Sittin' at his Port of Call, waiting for his ship to come in....
Bon Voyage "Wolfie," Bon Voyage!
After several weeks at sea, and spending a couple of weeks at the receiving port- which was closed during the holidays, "Wolfie" finally met his new family on Jan 6, 2015.
We hope they all make Many new Happy Memories together!
Miss Ya' Russ, Luv Ya' Marilyn! |

Thanks for the update Sue! I knew he was in the classifieds, but didn't know when he sold. Which country did Wolfie go to? |

"Wolfie" went across the Pond, to the UK. I know the couple has a couple of other types of VWs. So he's with folks who appreciate the "oldies." If I'd known it was gonna take so long to get there, I would've stuffed a Christmas card into the glove box. |

Thanks for the update. Wolfie sure looked pretty riding up front. I am sure we will be kept updated with him settling in the new stable. |

Well, from talking with the new owners, he's sharing garage space with a RHD splitscreen bus, and a LHD Oval window bug. :D Their black lab (Coco) really loves the car (at least he fits in the back seat  ), and they asked me if I knew where they could find a splitscreen single cab (of course I directed them to the Samba classifieds). They're actually waiting on some better weather (it's been raining and snowing in the UK a lot this year), to be able to get some driving in the English countryside, along with attending a few shows with him. 8) Sue and I are really happy that Wolfie found a new owner that will appreciate him, and give him the loving care we had started to, while he was with us.
Yeah, driving up that trailer was a trip. I'm glad I couldn't see what Sue saw, otherwise I probably wouldn't have done it. Their next stop saw a red Eldorado convertible get loaded up on the trailer (forgot the camera for that one). It looked pretty cool sitting there with Wolfie up front, and the Caddy sniffing his butt. |

I was looking back on this great build you did Bob, and the old winter/truck tires on Wolfe caught my eye. For a minute I though that old field find was running the Pirelli tires I just bought!
You keep in touch with the owner still or has it been passed around?

I'm pretty sure Bob's car is for sale right now. I saw a post on one of the various VW Facebook groups. |

I think those might have been Pirelli's but were 14's off of a VW Thing I restored back in 2007. Those have radial tubes in them, and were rollers, as the Thing had been parked for 20+ years, and the engine had been pulled (was in the garage).
I haven't talked to the owner in years, so I have no idea what's going on with it. |

Maybe you can PM me a link, as I don't do Facebook. The last I knew of the car it was in the UK. |
