Same color, just photographed in different lighting. Some in sun, others in shadow.
Let me know what you think.

You have no idea. On this particular project, that might be the most painless part

My computer screen must need to be cleaned....... it is showing me a BEAUTIFUL ragtop shell. The only problem is that the pics are showing some funky white graphic on the side.

Going to the store right now to clean my monitor because what I am seeing CANNOT be true. Please tell me it isnt so!!!

It is true I'm afraid.
Its the flash color for the Original Aussie trim I located. Same color as the inner rim color (L82 silver white). I know I'll get more than your nice comment about this one from other members, but at the end of the day, I want my car to be unique and memorable. And by the way, I'm not stopping there. While everyone is searching for German accessories. I've been collecting vintage Italian accessories for this car. I know it sounds crazy, but wait until its done. Right down to the vintage ROMA license plates and the NOS Abarth exhaust.

Remember I had two glove box doors from original strato bugs showing the original unfaded paint on the inside of the doors to make a swatch comparison. When we looked close I was going to go with Netpune blue from a 09 BMW swatch, it was actually off a lil too much.

So I found another color that was even more dead on to the original stratos and it is actually a VW/Audi color called Lago Met. I have the code if anyone needs.

And can anyone tell me what these holes are for? They look factory. They are up on the roof in the front of the sunroof opening.

Tell me what you think!

Chris

Hey Chris- wow, beautiful.
OK, if you're looking for the honest answer, in terms of color correctness, I couldn't begin to tell you. Too many factors involved. How your camera process color information, how the sunlight is reflecting off the silver base, the actual color of the pigment in the paint, my personal computer monitor, bla, bla, bla.
What I can say is based on the pictures, it looks beautiful- stunning.
So, how well does it match the original color behind the glovebox door? Mine is a tad dark in my opinion, but I still love the color.

Thanks man, shot with a good Sony cam on a bright sunny day. I came as close to the glove box door as possible. I would say it is about 90% there.

this is my first bug painted with the "Green" environmentally friendly paint. Lets hope she holds well.

My 55 during and after the exterior repaint. Original factory paint on the dasboard.

Can confirm the variations in the colour depending on light conditions.

We got pretty close to original, compared to the original paint in the dashboard

the oval has his fresh paint!
Inside the building he looks way to blue, but it's the correct color! (l227)

Its amazing how many Strato Silver Ovals have red seats and door cards!

Does anyone have pics of their grey roofliner?

Difficult to see, but I have a Grey German Wool headliner installed on my '54

Beautiful example! :)

Do you have any more pics?

ruvwen Sat Sep 29, 2012 12:20 pm

and now completed...

vdub144 Mon Jan 21, 2013 9:46 pm

@ruvwen - that is an absolutely beautiful color - you mention earlier that you can share the paint code - could you? I see several Audio Lago Blue Metalic colors when i search codes... My 54 is still a long way out, unfortunately, but I would like to hang on to the paint code in my book for when I am hopefully finally ready!

vdub144-

I just bought a quart of L227 Strato Silver from TCP Global here in San Diego. I gave them the PPG/Ditzler paint code of 31550. It worked!

PPG no longer produces solvent based paints (atleast for California) so it is only available in water-based materials.

If you're not equipped to spray water base, then Velspar & Custom Shop (TCP Globals private line) is still compatible with the original PPG code. So there is still hope for the D-I-Yers
