for 1976 there was a four seater convertible version planned; base was a stock karmann chassis lengthened for about 12 inches:

Never really PhotoShopped a full Karmen Ghia, but a few transplanted Ghia body components (roofs for the most part) onto other rides worked out OK:

Modification request -- Can you make the 146 roofline a little longer with a flatter, more upright hatch, similar to that of a Squareback? |

i could, but for me, this "falling" roof line to the back of the car is my favorite "look" at the moment! u see, i´m still on work and did this in my noon break. maybe i´ll do this this evening. |

Stop teasing us and build it!!
By the way, I assume this one was fake as well? Only reason I can think of VW considering this is to add a real back seat with proper seatbelts, and possible body mods to meet safety regulations. But then, we already know they had locked the 74 as the last year so they could switch production...
Still, if they ever built a prototype it would be interesting. Would be nice for those summer drives with more than one person. I'd buy one.

yes you´re right! production stopped in 74. due to falling buyers interests in this "antique looking" car if you compare to the 74 scirocco, golf (rabbit) and passat generation. |
