Looks like the body to glass ratio is a bit off... too much glass!
However, I do like the roofline on this one.

well, indeed, the roofline is the best!
if you look to the orange karmann with a type 3 roof, (please excuse me, just an open opinion) its too square!
thats why they called it the squareback  .
the round and smooth lines is the thing that makes the karmann so attractive. and its a beginning fifties design. so i planned for my karmann this "falling" roof line that makes it more "old", wind channel alike and on the other hand more actual in comparison to new cars. |

Call me a grumpy old git but this seems to be an exercise in proving how good the original design was. :? |

I'm not actually a big fan of the 911 targa, but I think it suits a Ghia ! |

We can play around and find some designs that might be useful or interesting (or humorus), but I don't think we could improve upon the real thing either :)

And interestingly enough, that actually looks pretty good. I normally don't like the headlights canted back like that either, but it fits the character of the car. I'd drive it.

At least the front subframe won't bend EVERY time like the real thing
The framehead may crack, but I think you could get a couple jumps out of it. Interestingly, the Fast Five has a scene where Corvette jumps off a train and races through the desert. The problem they had during filming was that the Corvette chassis was not tough enough for the stunts. They had to build something stronger, so they put a Corvette body on a VW chassis. The scene is just past 15 minutes into the movie, and when they jump off the cliff, you can see the VW engine in back...

That yellow station wagon (translates to "break" in French, pronounced as brekk, and goes by the name of a car-a-van in England) looks allright (personally would swap the mirrors for original goose necks though). A squareback Type3 was used for the body mods. I noticed that the airvents were put into the rear fender wing in an estetically not too obstructive way.
Nice job.
Now I'm not familiar with photoshopping, so here might be a good challenge for all you artists out there: a karmann ghia with a porsche 356 style rounder rear end (from beneath the original ghia rear window back)! 8) |
