Hello,

I made a 7 cylinder radial engine, using the cylinder heads, pistons, cylinders and several other parts of a VW 1200.

Here you can see it running:

Man that is amazing, I would love to see the bug moving being powered by that engine.

Radial engines always was a love of mine. Especially the crank set up.

Also any idea on the HP... It must be crazy to be behind your car at a traffic light. Also you may want to put wheelie bars on that car. One flip and goodbye engine.

I am a industrial engineer and just love your work.

Very cool. It took me a few seconds to figure out exactly how you split the heads and had the intake 180 from the exhaust like that. What's the story on the crank case? Custom made, or similarly repurposed? More details in general would be greatly appreciated.

Hello nextgen,

Thank you for your compliments!
Yes, I like VW engines, and radial engines. So I decide to make a VW radial engine! It took a few years, but now it`s running!
It would be nice to put it into my '68 bug.....
If you want to see how it`s made:

Very cool! any build details or pics?

Great work. I would love to see pics of the crank and case.

F'ing WOW!!!!!!!

It's also interesting from a historical perspective, since among the first engines built by Porsche for early Beetle-like prototypes were radial ones. This is a 3 cylinder radial engine for the Zundapp Volksauto that Porsche designed:

Thank you for posting that nice picture!
I know Porsche did experiments with radial engines, but I did`n know there was also a 3 cylinder radial engine!
In the very early days Porsche worked also with 5 cylinder watercooled engines. I wander there are pictures available from that engine?

Wow, great work! I want to build one now! (I am a very experienced FAA-licensed A & P mechanic)....

Bravo!!! I wish you were my best friend. I had visions of building a parallel twin, similar to the old Yamaha TX.... Thought it would be a cool treat.

Quokka42 Wed Mar 19, 2014 4:55 pm

Way cool, but how are the heads/valvetrain oiled?

Axitech Wed Mar 19, 2014 4:59 pm

SWEET!!! That is truly amazing!

esde Wed Mar 19, 2014 5:31 pm

That is some sweet work! What are your plans for it?

you've probably seen this, not nearly as cool as making your own from VW parts though

or later without the scary prop

No reflection on anyone, but I don't think there is a single VW part on that engine.

ekacpuc Wed Mar 19, 2014 5:58 pm

That's cool!

Wonder how much power it puts out.

Look at the rockers, what about the cylinders?

It is pretty obvious to me that the pistons, pins, cylinders, heads, rockers, cylinder head studs and pushrods are all stock air-cooled vw parts, modified for this application. Love it! Incredible workmanship!

This build is just unbelievable. I couldn't imagine what those big pieces of metal cost for the main housing. What is this going into, and how are the rockers oiled?

You have some serious skills. Well done. 8)
