Hi Corwyn.
We will leave Salt Spring shortly after the New Year celebration dies down. We have plenty of friends and family to visit along the way. We will see you probably Feb 2 or 3. We have driven this van throughout Europe and Mediterranean countries, through and over the the Alps many times, Spain, France, Switzerland, UK, etc. Loads of wine along great the way. Looking forward to Baja, we see they have vineyards there.
Thanks for organizing the start rendezvous

Vineyards, yes; and if we drive down from Potrero, we'll be going through the Guadeloupe Valley - wine and olive oil country. |

Hi BillandJean,
I have used Baja Bound insurance twice now (bajabound.com). They were easy to deal with and allowed me to raise the insured value of my Westy to a higher rate that reflected the current market value. I dealt with a guy named Geoff.
My wife and I are waiting to get our January and February schedules sorted out. We'd love to join the Baja caravan as well, if schedules permit. |

Regarding insurance, this site lets you choose your coverage.

I only get liability coverage, as the collision insurance is very expensive. |

So . . . heading back to WA after Christmas. Just curious; who's still in?
I'm leaving Olympia, WA on 8 January, headed to BBB at Lake Havasu. Visit some friends in Reno and Tucson, then to Potrero County Park.
I think last year ten people said they were coming and two actually showed up. I don't care how many; just curious . . . |

We will be leaving Salt Spring Island about Jan 8. Lake Havasu seems like a good place to stop, maybe we will see you there on our way to the Feb 5 start.
Happy new year. |

I'll be in Tucson late January, then Yuma. By 3 or 4 Feb, I'll be at the Potrero County Campground in Southern California (approx 60 miles east of San Diego. Crossing g the border at Tecate on the morning of the 5th, and Ensenada around noon. Enough? 😀 |

Will the gas shortage impact your decision to cross the border? If so, when will you be making the call? |

There is no gas shortage - they just jacked up the prices to what we're paying up here. I'm still going. |

There are demonstrations, road blocks etc.

Hoping this is all short term. I'm planning a trip down in March. |

I stand corrected. Let's see what the situation is when we get there. We may be spending a lot of time in and around Ensenada . . . 😱. |

I am in Guerrero Negro right now.
Last night there was plenty of fuel but the road south had been blocked for three days.
I overslept and missed the bus for whale watching :( |

Reading this thread from freezing Alaska...definitely would trade the Christmas tree and snow for a pacifico and some waves! Have fun and I hope to do this trip with you guys once I move back to the lower 48.
