Still have 26 or so days until the border crossing, hopefully it dies down. If not, We may be taking a southwest tour of New Mexico! |

Come on down, Mulege is empty and I have no problems finding fuel. |

We have left Salt Spring Island and are working our way south to Portrero for about Feb 3. I hope the fuel problems in Baja get sorted out. See you soon

There are plenty of spaces and it is seldom full. There is also a great overflow space. I'm just going to take what's available when I get there. |

We have been making our way down from Salt Spring Island, saw Hoover Dam today. Heading for Havasu tomorrow and will look for BBB near the lighthouse if we can figure out where BBB is. |

I hate to disappoint you, but Buses By the Bridge was 11-15 January. It's in the park behind the Motel 6. I'm in Tucson for a couple more days, then heading west toward Yuma. |

Sorry we missed BBB Yuma is on our route to Potrero. On to Havasu today after cappuccinos and croissants. We will relax in Havasu for a couple of domestic days. Can you recommend a comfortable clean site?

The State park is a great place, good location right in town on the lake. |

Sitting in Ensenada right now. Rain and cold, feel like we haven't left Bellingham, WA. Lobster lunch in our bellies and the locals promise sun in 2 days, so all is not lost! Heading for the wine country for a day or so, then south for sun!!! Look for the white high top Joker. |

FYI . . . Carnaval this year is 22-28 February and La Paz holds the second largest event in Mexico (Mexico City is #1). A great opportunity to have fun! I'm planning on going. |

We are planning to cross the border through Calexico today and head down the 5. Last year we went thorough Tijuana so we didn't get to see the gulf side this far north (San Felipe, etc). No idea what this side I saw like or where we're going but looking forward to exploring. We'd love to meet up if anyone is going farther south. We plan to take the 5 down to the 1 and continue as far south as we can go, maybe stopping in Bahia de Los Angeles since we didn't get to make that stop last time. Not sure what kind of service I'll have but I'll try to check back here to see where the group is or PM me if you know where you'll be and we can try to make it happen. Baja here we come! |

Question from a Canadian perspective:
What is the best way to deal with currency?
I spoke to my bank today and they said that withdrawing from ATMs using the Cirrus system, the currency will first be converted to US, then to Peso.
I've also read there aren't many ATMs in Baja Sur.
Is it best to exchange all the money I think I'll need here at home first? Bring the CDN $ to Mex then use the cambio houses? I have a safe in the van but I'd still prefer not to carry around all the money I'll need.
Also, what is an average amount of spending money to budget for for two people per day? We will try to camp on the cheap, buy most of our food but probably have to east out at least once a day. We plan to drive up and down the whole peninsula so probably going to have to buy a lot of gas!
Thanks! |
