Decided to start this because I have some upcoming/on going projects for my Ghia. kind of need to do this now as a reference for the future, so i can figure out what the heck I was doing.

I finally got a roll of carpet Friday, cut it all yesterday, and set it in today to see how it looks . I'm pretty impressed with the outcome, Props to everyone who helped here. feel free to discuss, ask questions - except " why Black" - black is cool :wink:

Details: the carpet specs - I Ordered a 6'x16' roll of carpet (96 square feet) a cost of about 65 dollars. A lot of carpet goes into these little guys. not sure of the actual brand - but I can call and get the name for anyone interested.

here's a picture up close -

I basically just traced the templates on the backside of the carpet then cut it with scissors - very easy to cut. I messed up on only two pieces though, one I cut for LHD rather than right, and the other the lines weren't running the right way. I did wind up with some left over - I'll probably use it to make a mat or something.

Here are pics of the carpet half assed set inside the car. I'm really glad that I didn't convince myself to order a kit - the PO welded the seat tails alittle further back than stock - so I would have had some ugly cuts.

Next project is Primer, as well as paint, and hopefully I can score a project engine to work on aswell - i found one but the guy flaked out on me :?

Life's good Chris :wink: I put the drives seat in and went for a ride, I had to move the shift plate around because first was very hard to find - but I got it set and it shifted like butter. I see a bushing replacement in my future.

That's really nice, I need to find a piece of carpet and cut a piece for the left side like it shows in your picture above, it's even the same color. Your photos will be a big help, thanks.

Looks great! I posted my own little carpet build a few days back. Looks better than my came out, but I put a mat over it so I would not see :wink:

Bloku: your carpet turned out awesome mate :wink: (you know this!) plus I got to use templates.

If anyone needs those templates I can send them to you, they are kind of hacked up - but if you can deal with it and fix them they should work fine for what they're for.

...very professional looking and looks like black is the perf color. I got very similar pattern, in gray at Lowe's...only got 30 square feet for starters. I want to leave some painted surfaces (L398) Pacific Blue showing and so, am cleaning those areas up, like the side heat tunnels. and around the back seat of the '64.

I think, i'll make patterns out of newspaper first and then proceed as you did. I like to see what all you guys are doing...pumps me to get to work...thanks!

That is an awesome, and unique idea - I love it! I should have thought of doing that to my backseat area :wink: I'm going to leave my dash the original Olympic blue that was hiding under the vinyl dash - adds some character, also cheaper than replacing it, and easier than painting it lol.

Completed some task today! I installed the "save my bug oil temp sensor" and I can now put my mind to ease about overheating. took the ghia for a drive after words to check it out - that's why its at half way around.

Next I found some flat black - high temp Rustoleum paint in our garage so I put it to use. first I did the exhaust

then the pulley tin, the pulley ,and some touch ups
before( lots of rust on the bottom too)

I'll see how long this stuff lasts :roll:

ok, now that you got that done....go back to the garage to cut the seal off the bottom of your garage door and use it for the missing seal on your engine. 8)

What's this "save my bug oil temp sensor" and why shoud I have one? Do I need wires to the front of the car to complete the installation?

Good thing maybe that I'm putting a second wiring loom (5 wires) down the other side of the car.

here's the link Chris ~ http://www.savemybug.com/ it comes with everything needed to make it functional - connects to oil pressure sender, and replaces the dip stick, the light on your gauge will flicker at 225* and stay on at 235*. eventually i'll run a separate light to my dash for the temp.

It's a simple oil temp sensor. If you buy one it has instructions on how to install. I installed one in my Ghia. All you have to do is run one wire to the dash(very simple). I also installed a separate light for it because my dash had a free hole.

well an update:

I have discovered an oil leak - I don't think it has been there since cleaning because I keep a pretty good eye open for it, and found it today. I just took it for a ride and it made a nice coat on the half of the bottom of my engine, its coming from somewhere above the sled tin ( I'll try and look tomorrow to pin point it)

how much of a concern is this, and what should I do about it??

also I should be going to look at the project engine Sunday, so any advise on what to look for will be appreciated - note that it is at some guys house so i don't know if he will let me drain the oil and check the screen. i know t check for play in the pulley, and to pop the distributor to look for rust - what-else?

Make sure the pulley turns freely and the motor isn't seized. Also the engine codes can give you a hint as too what kind of case you're looking at. Good luck.

Well I found the source of the leak -

it were a 17mm nut located conveniently between the pushrod tubes and the remaining sled tin. I was thinking it would be a pushrod tub seal that was leaking - luckily just the nut - but I can't get anything in there to tighten it, tried socket, socket with swivel, didn't have a 17mm wrench so I tried 11/16 but there wasn't enough room to move it at all, guess I can try vice grips. The volkswagen continues to elude me.

Even cheap wrenches are better than no wrenches. 8) Step away from the vice grips.

That's actually a nice deal - But I only have afew wrenches that I need for a complete set - so I'll hit the flea market and pic some up 8) .. I don't know how to get the nut though, I might be able to grind some of the wrench off - or some other modification that will allow me to turn it.

Do you think you could post up some current exterior pictures? I am really liking how this is going. It is making me want to turn my ghia back into the land of piratical and not much show off stuff. I do drive it daily. Very nice work :).
