Driving your own vehicle abroad? not necessary for europe, but if you get lost wandering you should definitely be familiar with this site:
https://carnetdepassage.org/ or you may get stuck at a border with an expired visa for you and your vehicle in the country you just left... that would probably suck!

Will your van fit into a shipping container with that hightop?

Not sure (I think not) but I was going to ship RORO anyway.

Dave

Nice hanging out with you again in MOAB, we really enjoyed ourselves. Anyway you know if you ship RORO you can not have anything in the van? It has to be empty inside.

In my case RORO was a generic term. I am not sure I am actually using that company but thanks for looking it up!

RORO. = Roll on Roll off. Unless it’s in a container the. Van has to be empty.

Not ‘empty’. Just nothing showing. They do not cover missing contents.
I verified this with two folks that have shipped roro.

You can stuff as much as you want in closed storage areas. With the high top I can also pull the bed platform all the way forward to the front bulkhead and have an enormous area to stow stuff. Drive a couple wood screws in hidden places to lock it in and Bob’s my uncle.

Just adding this to the RORO thread: Not a vanagon but info about RORO - they packed their rig with kayaks and gear.

Well this is getting real. I just requested a shipping quote from

My intention is to ship in September.

I'm containerizing my van from the east coast to Dublin next Spring. No conversions made except a set of propane adaptors. Everything runs and charges on 12v from the solar panel and second battery. See you over there!

Sweet. Which port are you shipping out of? (I am 30 minutes from the port at Baltimore. )

Corwyn Tue Jun 20, 2023 6:11 pm

Probably Bayonne, NJ. Baltimore is an option too.

If you choose Baltimore you have a place to stay…

Still have lots of stuff to do…..

I am using this company to ship.

https://www.lamprechtusa.com/transport-services/rv-auto/

They ship RVs and you can bring expected equipment in them... 8)
