Ok. So, here it goes by request. After I posted some pictures of my latest project in the gallery, I have been getting some requests to give it an own thread...
The idea for this originally came when me and my son (4 years old) went on a local Soapbox derby in the late May this spring...
The first question my son asked me was:
Daddy, why doesn't I have a car like that?? :?
And to top it off a few of my work collegues who hade built their traditional soapbox carts challenged me that I would have a beetle there next year... As I'm easy on taking such a challenge and I happened to have a complete -74 standard body sitting behind the shed I thought that it would just suit as the donor for the complete project... :D
I mean what else is a such a new body worth using for than scrapmetal??
Here is the donorcar before butchering:(My wife to the right and my kid on the trailer)
This picture was taken about the 1st of June this year...

are you going fender-less?....You definately have some skill on getting that thing looking proportionate....you'd have some mad skills on getting fenders sectioned/narrowed!...Your gonna have to slap a briggs and straton in that thing when he's done race'n it so he can take it around the house! 8) |

Yes, it will become fenderless, but I have noticed that if I would want to go fullfendered I just would use the rear inner wheelwells as half of the fenders. They have the perfect shape for it...
Forgot to say that it will get a 8hp B&S including transmission from a driveable Lawnmower... |

Been around at volksrods.com since before the day one but never built an own or had one my self.. Just been building the Hebster and now this is partly as a final testwork for me until I finish the Hebster for the next season...
I have also wanted to chop a bug but never had the opportunity and blessing from my wife until now. Secondly a fenderless Volksrod is out of question here in Finland due to the regulations... This is the closest I can get and it will be a cool car to cruise around in on the VW events next year.
The engine will be easily removed so it can be used as soapbox car occasionally.. |
