agreed Tommy...
I am building 2 engines for the 36hp Bonneville class.
so... I have a set of WW Okrasa heads in the works.
I have (2) 912 cranks being prepared and (2) custom flywheels being made by Jose at DPR.
I tried to buy a Pepco from a local guy I know... it was not to be, it seems he got a better offer while I was enroute to look at it, an he stopped picking up my calls and txts. Oh, but he did manage to remember my phone number 2 months later when he needed some fast cash and wanted to 'off' a couple of core 36hp longblocks :x
anyone else working on anything interesting? |

Rich Kimble has rekindeled the 36 hp drag class at Bug-In's I believe. WW has ponied up to sponser the Okrassa class
from the Bug-In site
“T6” Thirty-Six Horse Trophy Bracket -All the participants in this special bracket must have an engine based on the 36hp case. Wolfsburg West has posted $500 to the first car to win using their new “Okrasa-Style” kit.
Let the fun begin |

Ok, like other races it takes a minimum of four cars for a class.
I know I'll be there along with Al Higdon, does anyone else plan to be at Irwindale racing a 36er in the T-6 class? It would be awesome to see a vintage class and not have to be in the T-3 but will if I have to. Hopefully it's not just Al and me with our 36er like always, come on out and let's have some fun!!

Thank you sir and no one took the Wolfsburg West money because you have to have one of their motors to qualify. But it was fun anyway knowing the class was for us guy's. There were a few people at the show saying they were going to race at Bug-in. |

Got my two 356 cranks back from Jose at DPR on Friday, excellent job as usual. 72mm stroke with 36hp rods, 50mm mains. I'm trying one of the custom flywheels as well that Tom mentioned. Also got a batch of new valve springs made. They are a free length of 43mm just like originals but have a pressure rating just a bit higher than stock. I got tired of taking apart a dozen heads to find a nice set. These will be up for sale on my website as soon as tomorrow. As always if anyone has any cam cores out there, I need them. Sent my last batch to get reground last week, they sell fast!

Is the "custom" flywheel the same one that Blackline57 so graciously shared with everyone last year in their build? The one which was a stock 1600 flywheel with the 36hp center machined in and 8 doweled? It was nice of them to share their build details with the rest of us and I appreciate their cutting edge thinking. This allows the use of any 1600 Clutch and Pressure plate. I'm using the Kennedy 1700 pound on mine, balanced. |

the 200mm flywheel is also on another way possible.
for porsche 356 are 200mm flywheels available to use typ1 pressureplates and clutches plus 12v starter. the only thing is to use other shims to adjust endplay..but they are in more than one size available not like the only 0,32mm for 36hp.
@Mr. Motorhead
since okrasa repro more people need performance cams...right? |

Yes, the flywheel hub gets welded and remachined for 8 6mm pin holes with the spg pattern. I've had 180mm flywheels machined for a 200mm clutch then added a 12v ring gear before. Only problem with that is if you don't do a whole boatload it costs way more than the welded 12v flywheel route.
You'd think the uptake in sales would be for performance cams due to the the sales of the WW head kits but oddly enough I've been getting just as many requests for stock grinds. Many thanks to all that have sent me cams, keep those cores coming! I'm even willing to grind your cam ( if you do make sure you mark it in some way). |

I'm sending a load of 36 hp cams to WEB to be reground, after the dyno session with my WW Okrassa engine we started to calculate cam lifts and duration and came up with what we feel will be some better grinds (we had a WEB 86 grind). Also Tom Bruch is going to see if his guy will machine up some more of the offset rocker shafts to use Porsche rocker arms. Need more lift and duration. My engine would not rev higher then 5500 rpms

5500 at the end, 11 sesions, 77 pulls in 5 hours |

Splitpile I was wondering what is your target for Lift and duration on the new Cam ?? Are You guy's shooting for higher than say 6200 RPM overall?? Eric |

Any one machined a set rocker stand off a 36head and fit a set of custom made shafts? After the machining and shorting down a set of 1600 shafts(I know and re drilling the holes in tempered/ steal is not easy, and shorting and tapping it is just as fun  ) you could have a wide range of arms and ratios available. Yes you would most likely have to go with the Porsche style lifters so you could get the swivel and adjustment out of the push rods.
Also any one ever done the jaguar valve spring trick that was mentioned in "making the VW go book"? |

How many pounds pressure do the Jag springs have? Anybody know? The springs I have in stock are about 88 pounds. |

I saw a set last Friday, aftermarket T1 ratio rockers on modified T1 shafts, on modified 36hp pedestols, all custom machined to function like T1. Not cheap to do, very time consuming

Another nice stroker crank from Jose at DPR. 72mm, 36hp rod journals. Made from a cherry std/std 36hp crank. 8 doweled, hardened, and balanced.
