Would you like to go for a ride in our test car, 1970 bug with over 43,000 miles on it, this car made the 2006 Gene Berg cruise from CA to MI and back. Made 198 hp and 236 tq at the wheels in Michigan on a chasse dyno on pump gas.(cheep truck-stop pump gas!)
The car has a 2054 cc (74 mm 94 mm) with our base 1600 T kit with our std T 3 turbo and 500 cfm 2 barrel carb, and the LBC3 cam..
http://www.lowbugget.com/more_turbo.wmv

check out the sweet sound of one our turbo kits on the dyno making
224.48hp at a low 5200 rpms and 237.75tq at a lower 3500 rpms on pump gas.

What is turbo charging and why should you add a turbo to your VW?
By using the energy contained in the exhaust from the engine, the turbocharger drives the turbine that rotates at a vary high speed, which in turn brings the compressor impeller on the same shaft of the turbine into high velocity rotation. When the air is pressed into the engine combustion chamber by the compressor, the air's total volume is increased for a more complete combustion. This then will help so that the power of the engine is boosted and the fuel consumption is reduced. At the same, pollution can also be minimized because of improved combustion and lowered emission of harmful substances in the exhaust that would have been wasted.

"In basic words"
With turbochargers, the exhaust gas energy which would normally be wasted is now used to drive the turbo's turbine wheel, which in turn drives a compressor wheel to deliver the now compressed air to the engine.

The advantage of a turbo charged engine over a naturally aspirated engine:
. Lower fuel consumption (my 2054 cc turbo avg 25.48 mpg and makes over 220 hp and 260 torque)
. Lower emissions for all.
. More torque characteristics at lower engine speeds.
. Lower engine noise than with the same HP from a naturally aspirated motor.
. Smaller engine packages to make the same power or more.

Lets say one of your best vw friends is talking about his new motor combo.
This motor has:
86 mm crank, "H" beam rods, FK 89 cam, 1.5 roller rockers, 48 x 40 comp heads with 12.0:1 compression and a 1 7/8" header?

You would think this thing is going to "ROCK" Its a Honda eater for sure!!!

But then he says he is going to run a single 30pic solex carb on it..........? and it will rev to the moon and make 200 hp!

You would think.... then say: " WY are you wasting your time? You are trying so hard to make big power but at a unreliable high RPM, take that carb off of there"

Well when you drive a turbo car you will think the same about big carb combos like IDA's and IDF's.
Yes you can try so.... hard to brake that 200 hp mark. But why spend $1000 or more for a set of IDA's or IDF's just to only make 200 hp? A 200 hp carb combo can push your bank account well over $6000, Most will be around $8000 to $10,000 or more for heads, rods, ty valves etc. "STOP" I can still make more power on pump gas with a turbo motor and drive from CA to MI and back . A 1915 turbo can make over 200 hp and 220tq, and still be less than $5,000 for a complete turn key!!
we have them at that price! check out www.LowBugget.com for motor info.
The big kicker is you can drive your 200 hp turbo motor from Ca to Mi, try that on 12.0:1 compression carb combos!!!

Turbo Questions?
Will adding one of your turbo kits make my car run hot?
No, Our kits are set up to only build boost when you need it. By matching the turbo, header and carb to your
combo we are able to make the boost come on only when you need it or want it. You can drive down the
FWY at 70 mph without building boost. This way your not building heat. You can still make boost at a lower
speeds, its up to your right foot to pick when the boost comes on. So you can drive all day with out building
1 lb of boost and save gas or drive like a nut with twice the power but less mph,! its up to you! Cruse past the
school and police officer like you have a 1600 but power up the freeway onramp like you have a 3.5L!

Is a turbo motor loud like a VW with a stinger?
No. The turbo cuts up the sound and acts like a muffler. They sound like a new Harley or one of the new
Subaru WRX's. A nice deep tone that has a little lope to the idle! On the big motor combos and/or if you have
a large cam you may need to add our optional street muffler.

Are your kits hard to adjust the carburetor?
Yes (just joking) The correct answer is NO, Our kits come with a Holley 350 or 500cfm 2 barrel carb.
The neat thing about these carbs is that they do not use idle jets like a stock Solex or Weber carb will.
They have a idle screws that meter the idle and mixture circuit at the same time. For the main jet we install
one of our Adjust-A-Jet main controls. It will allow you to make changes to the main with out ever changing
a single jet! This way all you have to do is turn a screw for the mixture of your motor.

What other parts do I need to order with your 1600 T, 2000 TS and 2000 SS turbo kits?
A good Fuel pump.
Boost gauge and a line for the gauge.
"Not a big list is it"?

Compare a 1915 cc with a carb cam to a 1915 cc turbo cam combo.
We will take a 1915 combo with a 130 cam give a brief comparison: As a carb combo it want's to be up at 6,000 to 7,000 to make its max power of around 130 hp. Max torque is around 125tq at 5,500 rpm's.
Usable power band of around 4,000 to 7,000 rpm's.

If you take that same motor and try to turbo charge it with say 10 lbs of boost you will make max 175 hp @ 6,000 rpm and max torque of around 160 @ 5,500. You have a usable power band of 5,000 to 8,500 rpm's,(if the motor will stay together up there) but as a turbo it will not need to be up there to make its MAX power. Lets take that same motor and install one of our LBC2 cams. Now it will make power from 1,800 to 6,000 with around 220 hp @5,000 and 230tq @ 4,000. What would you want? A motor that turns more RPM to make less power or one that make's more power and turns less rpm?

this is a look at our 1600 T kit for bug.
For 1600 cc to 2007 cc street motors you will use our 1600 T kit .
The 1600 T Bug kit comes with 1 3/8" 16 gauge ceramic coated USA made header,
thick 3/8" flanges.
Has a true 4-into-1 collector. No cutting of your apron or body.

"NEW" not rebuilt T 25 turbo NOW T 3 turbo is std with all kits, FREE!!!!
NOW all kits come with a 38 mm Delta style waste gate, FREE!!!

For this kit we use a Holley 350 cfm 2 barrel with turbo "Adjust-A-Jet"
"Yes" with the turbo "Adjust-A-Jet" there is no jets to change,
just turn one screw to make the carb run richer or leaner.
We pre-set the carb for you to start out of the box.
The carb comes with a boosted turbo power valve.
This Turbo power valve opens once above 2 lbs of boost.
It will feed the extra fuel when needed.

All boots, clamps, fittings, hoses, brackets, sealants, nuts, bolts and even the throttle cable is included in this kit! We also give you a new Locked out Turbo dizzy!
Take a close look at all the parts.
The 1600 T kit $2195.

What did a turbo motor of my size make on the dyno?
This is a quick list of some of the motors that made there way to the dyno. Most of the combos were made to make the most power on pump gas. Some and most of the owners would add some race gas and turn it up!

1600 cc
With good valve train and our old base 1600 T turbo kit (32 x 36 progressive carb) on pump gas.
110 hp and 121tq @11 lbs (test was on our junk 1600 motor, motor was a used motor to start, we used it as a turbo for 19,770 miles, We did add dual springs, retainers, keepers,SS valves and 1.25:1 rockers with C/M push rods)

1641 cc
With 1600 T Ghia kit (T 25 turbo) LBC 1 cam,35 x 32 ported heads,7.4:1 on pump gas.
127 hp and 141tq @10 lbs. This motor was snappy and sound like a big 2 L.

1776 cc
with our LBC 1 cam and basic 1600 T kit (T 25 turbo) stock 35 x 32 heads 7.5:1 on pump gas.
139 hp and 154tq @ 7 lbs

1835 cc
with our LBC 1 cam and 1600 T kit (T 3 turbo). Motor was used in our baja 67 bug. This motor started off as a 46 mm Kadron motor making 96 hp and 107tq at the wheels (no belt and air cleaners off) with a old Sig Erson cam.
With a turbo made 155 hp and 14th @ 8 lbs. Motor then made its way too the LowBugget race car for two years and ran best of 11.44 @ 118 mph at 22 lbs of boost. (it did split a cylinder on its last pass trying to run 24 lbs of boost!) but on that pass clicked off a 1.42 sec 60' and 6.98@101 mph in the 1/8 mile but the sound of the air coming out of the cylinder made me shut it down!

1915 cc
with our base 1600 T kit (T 25 turbo), LBC 2 cam, pocket port 40 x 35 heads.On pump gas.
167 hp and 176tq @8 lbs of boost.

1915 cc
with our LBC 2 cam, base 1600 T kit (T 3 turbo) with our old and small 32 x 36 progressive carb.
176 hp and 207tq at the wheels on 15 lbs of boost. This motor in a stock 1968 bug ran a best of 13.31 @101 mph in 1/4 mile on 165 stock tires @12 lbs of boost!

1915 cc
1600 T kit with a (T 3 turbo) and 40 x 35 ported heads.
241 hp and 252tq @ 15 lbs of boost. Car ran 11.79@ 115 mph on DOT slicks .Full stock steel 67 bug.

1915 cc
with our Manx kit, (T 3/T 4 turbo), ported 40 x 35 heads and the Holley 500 carb.
240 hp and 252tq @ 13 lbs of boost. This motor was built to make power, I hope to get info of what this car runs in the 1/4 mile and on the street soon!

2054 cc
with our 2000 TS kit (T 3 turbo) and a Holley 500 carb. LBC3 cam, 40 x 35 pocket port heads, 7.8:1
198 hp and 236tq at the wheels on pump gas. I can run up to 12 lbs on pump gas but we leave the boost at 8 lbs just in case we get a bad batch of gas. This motor has over 48,000 miles on it now! Car runs a best of 8.55 in the 1/8 mile on 205/65 tires on pump gas.
Would you like to go for a ride in this car? In car video, out for test drive!

2054 cc
with our 1600 T kit and (T 3 Super 60 turbo) Holley 500 carb. 40 x 35 pocket port heads. LBC3 cam.

246 hp and 267tq @20 lbs of boost @ 4,900 rpm. On 12 lbs of boost this monster made 174 hp and 240tq. @ 3,800 rpm's. This thing would drive like a dream! Over 200 foot ponds of torque at less than 4,000rpms !!!! We stopped the dyno pull as all we wanted was to make more than 225 hp. once we did that there was no reason to keep beating on it!
This beast is going in to a 1970 bug for street use only. (the owner says!)

2276 cc
Off Road/Drag Race kit, (T 3/T 4 turbo) Holley 500 carb LBC 4 cam 42 x 37 ported heads.
