Designed using the factory original slat profiles, these slats are an exacting duplication of what originally came on VW trucks. Each set is ready to install and includes all the correct hardware.
-Made of ash, the wood originally used by VW (custom runs of any species you like are also available at additional cost)
-For bay window models I offer blind rivets as original, excepting that they are stainless and are closed end rivets, making them water tight
-pre-drilled and counter bored with spacing based off of original truck slats. It should be noted that there are many different hole patterns seen on original trucks. While all are correct there is no way to offer slats that mount right up to original holes. You will either need to drill new holes in the bed based on my spacing, or order undrilled slats and custom drill each hole yourself to use your existing holes.
-finished in a pressure tank of penetrating oil for 24 hours. The result is a long lasting finish that is easy to maintain and is fully impregnated the entire thickness of the wood. Similar oil was most likely used by VW
-Both ends of the short slats are beveled and one end of the long slats are square cut as original
- at some point earlier than 1976 VW switched from 15 bed slats (10 long and 5 short) to 11 slats (8 long and 3 short). I have no documentary evidence as to when the switch was, so it’s up to you to decide which set you need. The price varies slightly (see below)
