Hey guys,

Just wondering if you guys know where to get your seat upholstery from. For my 54 and my 56 I went with BFY and the material is awesome. But I am NEVER using BFY again, they SUCK.

I am just curious who they use to job out their seat upholstery kits. BFY's package deals where the cheapest I have seen when it came to the correct style and such, a few hundred lower that WW and a lot lower than Lenny at WCC. Some have told me that that use lenny's crew.

Does anyone know?

You get what you pay for is something that I live by.

When I get to the point of getting my sets done, they will be shipped out to Lenny's shop for a complete re-do.
I'll also get the door cards, headliner, ragtop and carpeting from them as well.

Im going to try Ricardos Kit in Argentina. I will be sure to keep you guys posted on my interior when its Delilahs turn. If youve been tracking some of the interior question threads that I had on here..It was to get the appropriate dimensions for the upholestery guy for my 1954. Once the kit is in the States I will have it sent to the upholstery shop recommended by F&J Body Shop, to be installed. I will definitely keep you all posted, so we will see. Mainly its the material for me, plus it ended up being more for my dollar with more in the deal to get it through Ricardo.
Heres the question & answer details in case your interested from the email traffic:

1) Are the parts for a sedan , right ??
The parts are for a Sedan (1954 DeLuxe 117 Sun Roof)

2) Will you need square or round or NO pillows ??
I will need the Rectangular Pillows. (Dimensions are attached to this email)
A (Heigth) 7.5 inch = 19.05 centimeter
B (Width) 7.5 inch = 19.05 centimeter
C (Length) 15 inch = 38.1 centimeter

Interior Kit: $1670
Includes:
FRONT AND REAR SEAT COVERS
"B" PILLAR MATERIAL
ARM REST MATERIAL
GLOVE BOX LINERS (1 Glove Box Only)
ASSIST STRAPS
2Door Panels (Drivers with Map Pocket only)
2 Rear Panels (Passenger Side with Ashtray Cut Out)
Rear Seat Rectangular Pillows
2 DOOR PANELS (Drivers Side only with Map Pocket)

Details:
The seems are horizontal not vertical like the splits. There is an attachment of a 1954 Drivers Door Panel in this email. The seems are measured from top of the panel with out piping.

*From Top of Panel to 1st Seem: 1.8125 inch. = 4.6 centimeters
*From 1st Seem to 2nd Seem: 3.5 inch. = 3.5 centimeters
*Map Pocket Distance to Edge of Panel W/Out Piping: 5.5 inch. = 5.5 centimeters

2 REAR PANELS (Passenger Side Ashtray Square)
*Ashtray: The distance from the Edge of Ashtray to Forward Panel: 2.5 inch. = 6.4 centimeters
*The hole for the Ashtray is: Lenght: 3 inch. = 7.6 centimeters

Height: 2.125 inch. = 5.4 centimeters

Shipping: $325 to the US

3) I will make a split set , except for the door panels
This is what you told me:
Yes Sir, but the seems have to be horizontal not verical for the 1954. The Splits seems are vertical on the interior.

Just to give you variety, like I said Im trying this one..When it comes in Ill definitely be posting and sending pictures..

Yeah no question, keep us posted. I might just get from Wolfsburgwest next time around, Sewfine is good too and they will do the correct patterns and style for you, but they do not supply the matching door posts and assist straps.

I just would like to know the guy does the jobs for BFY and WW. Just go to him direct.

Correct seat upholstery for Bugs upto 1957 is made by Lenny @ West Coast Classics and he supplies BFY & WW. BFY have a habit of having the wrong prices, they tell you one price then realise that the supplier has changed the price so they up it.

Yeah and then you pay, and the bastards never send you the stuff. I have disputes out against them, still have not seen my money return to me.

Does Lenny have a catalog or do you order thru the phone with them? Just curious about how many colors they have and whatnot and if there are swatches.

Hey Louis, well I did research..and the only difference is that from 52 and early theres a slight arch that goes aft..(towards the back). The seat bottoms are the same..I researched it in the Split Forum and am going to add that link of the Split forum here..
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=337332&highlight=front+seats

I like Lennys work also.. I really do..and I did check with him last year through email..when I began searching for interior..My only thing is, the actual design of the fabric..Im trying to get something slightly different then whats hugging booties around at the shows..I like Lennys work, no doubt he's a "Go To Guy"..but the Streifen Braun they had just wasn't the same as the material that Ricardo has..
Ricardo even offered to send me the material only (Approx. 10Yds.) and have someone else do the work..But I feel that its his material, so Ill use his work.
When I was home, I even went as far as the Los Angeles Garment District looking for this type of cloth and online for the material..
So...Thats why..Im just a little picky, and want to have a slight difference.. Im not going to be able to have it sent for the install until I get home in December; I still have the wiring harness to install and a few other things Id like to be there for...But Ill be making the deposit on the interior next month.. and have it shipped to the shop probably in September..I really cant wait to get home from this place this time around..Color sanding Delilah comes next week!

Heres the two:

Dubdawg, your interior looks awesome. I would have to agree with you, West coast classic interior is the shit. I went with Sew Fine in my car. This is the second car that I have put Sew Fine in, they make some good stuff also. If anyone ever tells you that Sew Fine and TMI are they same there not. Tons of people told me they are but its no were close to the same, just ask my brother he found out the hard way, but it still looks pretty good, just not the same.

Jbugs supplies TMI and it sucks ass. When you have problems with the shitty quality of the products they are selling. They basically tell you tough shit your problem is with TMI. They dont back what they sell.

On the strength of WCC's reputation, I took a vw bug convertible and an early Ghia to WCC to have interiors, tops etc made and installed. The pace of the work was extraordinarily slow, and in some cases was not finished. Damage done to the car during WCC's work was not repaired. We are working through a resolution of our dispute over how much of the unpaid bill I owe. WCC's interior kits are top notch but so are their prices. At this price, I expect the work to be done correctly and timely and for the vehicle to be checked over before being delivered. I would not consider taking a car there for restoration again. If anyone considering doing business with WCC would like to hear the full story, please send me a private message and I would be glad to discuss it with you.

Re Rich's 50's experience, mine is exactly the opposite, first class experience, first class installation, correct, worked with me closely on what I wanted, had incredible resources to view original installations, and the selection of fabrics and material was great. Scheduled me in, worked to completion, car was done in four days. Wouldn't go anywhere else and I don't plan to for my 67 vert. Photos below are of my stock 56. Thanks Lenny!!!!!!!
