FYI - To re-route my drain hose to the corner of the cabinet, I just used an 90 degree angle fitting at the floor connection and didn't have to relocate or drill anything. It fits under the bottom cabinet cover.
Oh yeah....this:

Moving the drain will give you some more room, but it isn’t necessary. I achieved 90% of the same benefit by installing an “L” fitting in the floor and running the drain hose roughly horizontally.

Well I too had to replace the P trap with one I found at West Marine. And now with this thread as inspiration I have rebuilt the drawer with full extension guides and dovetail joints for the rear panel.

Nicely done.
Are those 10 mm box wrenches on the ends of the utensils? If not, they should be.

after removing a mile of duct tape from my Westy, i used tape to fix the plastic drawer sides. it's Tyvek tape so it's not going to dry out, but it was only temporary until i came up with something better.
this thread is inspiring me to complete the kitchen drawer rebuild. i need to pull the kitchen to replace the sink/stove with a better one Destructo gave me in 2020 (no, it's not in the dining room).
drawer sliders like a modern kitchen drawer have been on my wish list. thanks for the great ideas everyone.

make them 13mm on the spoon, 15mm on the fork, and 17mm on the knife and one could eat a meal and then fix almost anything on the bus! _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL Camper

Since it's available for purchase on several sites including the ones I linked in going real.
..... Not, how functional? TBQ
There are open and box end versions available.
Maybe CrookedDesigner can start casting some to our specifications. _________________ 83.5 Westy with Subaru 2.5, 4 spd manual, center seat, COLD A/C on 134a!, Winter camp heated with an Espar B4 gasoline furnace

I had installed the 90° drain when I replaced my faucet but hadn’t found time to get the drawer done. Saw Sodo’s at Syncrofest and decided to get it done.
I 3D printed all the parts. Copied the OE drawer side profile. To attach to the front, I just added a front to the new drawer and screwed to the face. I had the early mini drawer and can now actually use this. Printed some organizers but have already started printing version 2.

wow that's nice.
Nothin' quite like increasing the size of a westy drawer by 20%.
And in the case of the smaller westy drawer....100%? _________________

Hi,
I made a dimple die thing to modify the sink so the new drain strainer sits better. Alternative to Tom’s mod to the strainer itself.
More pics here on my blog.
https://shufti.blog/2024/06/03/vanagon-stock-sink-drain-replacement/
Oh and make the 2.150 dimension 2.145” , its easier to remove the die from sink after pressing
Cheers
Alistair

Very nice! Wondering how a 3d printed plastic version would do. Just may have to try., Thanks for sharing.

Vanis,
Very much doubt printed die would do it. Took a fair bit of grunt on the wrenches to tighten the bolt . Not sure even that a wooden version would work.

We need a pic showing the ergonomics.
What about a few hammer blows?
Could "crib up" a stack of wood from the floor below.
Vanis13 will print one, right?
I'd use a finer-thread bolt.... like a 3/8-24.
I bet a plastic one needs some big fat steel "washers" on each end. _________________

This is really cool! Could you make this a traveling tool? Folks could pay shipping plus a "security deposit" . Then the next guy does the same so people would only be out shipping and PayPal fees.
I used a Dremel with grinding tip to open up the hole. I would gladly have fronted some money to have used this. It is really a one time use. _________________ '84 Westy, '93 Subaru ej22 and Subarugears 5speed

Tom,
I had ratchet with short extension, half inch drive , on the nut, in the sink. Under the sink a box end wrench on bolt head. The bolt and nut and washers all greased up, as well as the working face of the die.
I dunno what torque I was applying. But must have been over 40 ftlbs . Even with washers or some other facing, I doubt printed one would work. Don’t forget the 45 degree faces that come close and make the dimple. Lots of spring back too.
I’d not try hammering on the sink . It’s pretty stout gauge ss . And you’d really need a good backer set up …
I’d rather die grind the hole larger than try hammering.
Mtnhome…. It’s going to be used by geato, the foil guy Greg, for his install then it’s free for others. Be aware that I made it out of aluminum so it won’t last for many installs , I think .
Cheers

If Alistair and I had discussed the problem before I did this un-sophisticated, barbaric deed
you can be 100% EFFIN' CERTAIN that I would have pursued some sort of dimple-die-rig.
Probably a large socket
....jammed into a wooden hole
For "Vanagon Sport", of course.
But the full-drawer-rebuild ahead was perhaps distracting me.
Inablility to saunter over to the lathe lends toward barbaric methodologies,
ill-fitting such a fine machine as a Westfalia
is often a contributing factor.
And now I have to live with THIS.
In any case......be it known that my new setup.....drains most of the water like a MOFO!
Consequently the un-drainable, disturbing ring is at least, clear, clean water. _________________

Yeah Tom, give that socket a go. Maybe a bit of relief cut into the wood backer you put under the sink?
The standing water issue ain’t a big thing for me. Was just how proud an un modified strainer sat that bugged me. And either I was going to bash the strainer or bash the sink. As you did the former I went with the latter. Have to be different ….
Cheers
