I just bought this bus yesterday and I want to replace the exhaust on it. I really dislike whats on it right now. I don't have the bus yet but want to get started on getting some stuff together. I would like to find something that would bolt up to the 3 bolt flange for right now and maybe later go to a side winder exhaust. I've gone through the forum and can't find a easy solution. I really like the phat boy stainess steel exhaust but I'm worried about it being to low and hitting the bumper or bumper brackets. I'm not sure what size header it has. It only has a 1600 in it. Any suggestions?

Nice bus Steven.

I want to get rid of the 17's and remove the tubs. The tubs aren't finished anyways. I guess it all depends on when it gets here. In some pictures I like the wheels, in other picturs I don't like he wheels. |
Could this be the first case of "fixing a PO hack of the front wheel wells"? This is comparable to the constant "fixing a PO hack of the rear wheel wells"
Back on topic, I run a bug style hideaway exhaust but had to heat and bend the outlet after the header to get it to clear the body. Then had the local muffler guys make a tight radius return after the muffler and run the tailpipe out just below the right rear of the bumper. Its a 65 bus and is low, but not slammed, and I still scrape occasionally. It sounds good, though. _________________ Confusious say it takes it takes two wipes to know you need three, but it takes three wipes to know it only needed two. |

| I have run aftermarket mufflers on busses and will never run them again, as if you have a small motor, like 1641 and smaller, no need for aftermarket. STOCK mufflers tuck, and sound good. Not that pea shooter sound from bugs...lol. |

I have to agree fuchs won't look right. Especially with the tubs that this bus has. I think the spindles are also 5 or 6" spindles also. I believe those wheels are 18" also.

I'm quite sure that fuch will look nicer on that bus than the turbo twists. I honestly don't think modern style big wheels look right on a bus.
If it's sitting too low with the 5 or 6" spindles and there isn't any more adjustment on the beam then regular dropped spindles can always be fitted _________________

Probably not, I'm thinking of going to CTS if I get the bus here and get the trans fixed in it. |

I'm running a 1679 in my kombi, and would like to be able to mount my rear bumper and hursts- but the muffler I have
wont allow it (unless I cut/bend and reweld it) -which will then create dragging issues from my drive to street (drive is uphill a bit)..would I be better off running this?

here is what i have now- the pressed bumper brackets can't be mounted (nor the hurst brackets).

Franks old bus, I have rolled with this bus a few times. From what I recal the exhaust is just twin single packs on an extension from the header flange...I have a picture of it somewhere, I might dig it up..
Nice purchase, I always liked that bus. |

| I stepped up and bought the ceramic coated side winder with the stainess steel muffler. I haven't installed it yet because the guy that is building my trans is draggin ass and I haven't received it yet. I took the dual Empi quiet pack off of it because it looks gay and with the trans not having 4th gear I can drive a little bit faster (45mph) around town with no exhaust. It has a merged header on it so that is the reason why the 3 bolt flange sticks out so far. Please post some pics of the bus if you can find some. Yeah it's not a bad bus. A little more rust that I would like but it's just a beater for me. I still need to pull the Z bed out and install my early middle seat. |

I was going to try one of those FatBoy exhaust (similar to what you have) but the engine and trans was raised in the bus so I was thinking that it would probably hit the bumper. The 3 bolt flange drags the ground when I come in and out of my driveway. |

There is a way of cutting the pipes and flipping the flange over and giving your self more clearance. I had this done on my really low kombi.
It is a little hard:

this is just for stock motors, or SUPER mild motors...and only if youre EXTREMELY low. everything hides up and behind the apron and bumper. Cant see the tips even when laying on the ground from the rear.
