Well its not a Bay, and it's not a camper yet. But here is my current set up. The PO did all of this before he sold it to me. Its great for moving lots of stuff and still having room for 5 people.

The Rear bench is out of a 60's bug. And the rear platform is just long enough to sleep on with an air mattress.

I'm in the design process of a camper interior, that's how I found this post.

Thanks for the great pics. Keep them coming.

Oh, and all the metal is Sheet Metal. Looks awesome to me, but sure rattles going down the road. Someday I'll put something behind them to hold them in place.

I love the side way bench seat! It would be really cool to get one of the Bay camper ones that folds into a bed... kinda like a futon.

Perfect, I was looking for a pic with a side bench.

For my Bay, I am doing a full custom interior and my concept was a wrap around couch, where the back portion is able to fold into the bed. But I was afraid minimal clearance of the side bench.

but I like it. Now I just need to find a icebox, and I am off to the races.

My camera's broken so I can't take any more recent photos. Its a little more together now. Coming along. So i kept the cooler box in the corner, it clears fine with the zbed. Reupholstered that also obviously. I'm going to do door panels with the simlar two-tone style. I'll probably change the colour of the cabinets, repainted a tan but its not quite the right shade. Meh. gotta get it running first!

ps: mod'n some Recaro buckets for the front :S...

How did you mount the seats?

What are the recaros from?
I have a set of recaros from a golf, I also have a set of seats from a camry and they seem to be a better setup for the bus, but not sure how to fit them.

For me, the PO just built a small box frame from some 2x4's. It sits about 8" tall, and basically matches the lower seat. It's not bolted down, as it probably should be. But it just sits there. The lower seat just rests on this frame, and the back rest simply leans agains the side wall. The lower seat holds it into place.

I attached seat belts to the wood frame for safety. Also you have to have them in California or you get a big ticket.

But it all comes out easy enough when needed. The whole system, including the rear come out in about 10 minutes total. Very handy.

this raises a question to me , are these things considered the same as a bus?

as in are you required to provide seatbelts for every passenger like you would in a car or can you reg. it like an rv or bus and get around this?

last time i rode a bus (long long time ago) they didn`t have seat belts?

isn`t my bay just a short bus for slow hippies?

I would devinately agree to this point. We are basically a small RV driving down the road. At least the Campers are. If you have 7 passangers in the their, then you might want to look into seat belts.

If an RV can get away with it, and have a 70 year old man at the wheel, shouldn't we be able to do the same.

just my .02

yea totally agree, i`m against the whole seatbelt laws for people over adult age anyways, you have to watch the faces of death car video in drivers ed. they tell you you more than 70% more likely to die without a seatbelt in an accident, and i don`t think in the history of man kind has anyones body ever flew out of a car and caused an another accident somewhere else, shouldn`t we have the freedom to risk our lives as we see fit? some people would argue that it's just silly not to, nut i argue those same people probably think me hanging 800ft up off a cliff for fun is silly too, what ever happened to personal responsibility?

anyways i really think these vans should be concidered as rv's due to the amenties supplied and have the same regs as them and such,

seat belt laws suck for those who are old enough to make a educated decision on their own!!!!!!!!!!!!

my bloody 2cents

ha ha

also, hasnt anyone seen the crashtest for a baywindow? a seatbelt isnt gonna help you there. so there is absolutly no point for seatbelts in any bus, let alone a camper. besides, the seatbelts kinda ruin the backseat.
and i dont think cops will pull you over. for gods sake, your driving the slowest vehicle in the road, he can pull someone else over for breaking the law.

my 2 cents. Razz haha

Anecdotal: Falling asleep @ the wheel (just still tired @ 6:45am) and being awakened by a the loud horn of a truck I was about to T-bone (as I ran the red light... ), I yanked the steering wheel and turned so sharply that the car went up on 2 wheels to about a 45 to 50-degree angle. When it came back down on all 4 wheels, the corner had been successfully turned, I was still securely behind the steering wheel, and (theoretically) in control... thanks to the PO-installed seat belts, the first set in any of our family's vehicles.

Parked, shaking, there by the curb, I realized I'd have been dumped out the open passenger-side window had it not been for the seat belt I was wearing, and my much-loved hotrod would have become an un-guided missile @50mph, ready to wreak havoc on anything in its curving path. I was an instant believer!

Obviously a skilled driver, in control of a vehicle, can do a better job of protecting others than one who has herself/himself been thrown away from the steering/braking/accelerating area. The vehicle control factor is why this state requires school bus drivers to wear seat belts. Cheap short-sightedness (aided by massive lobbying from the bus companies!) is why the laws don't require the passenger seats to be similarly equipped!

In the years that followed my religious conversion to seat belts, as a firefighter/rescue worker, I saw many accidents where countless folks were held in place by their seat belts/shoulder harnesses, to their advantage. I don't recall observing any situations where such safety devices actually made for worse outcomes, though it's only logical that there have been some of those. Also I distinctly remember certain accidents where properly used seat belts would most likely have prevented unnecessary death/dismemberment/disfigurement/discomfort.

Oh, the honking truck driver? Turns out he was doing deliveries from the same dairy I worked for! I did apologize.

I was very happy to have a seatbelt when I laid my bus on it's side in a ditch at 55mph...can't imagine only having a banged up knee if I wasn't belted in.

BTW, RV's have been equipped with seatbelts for a few years now.

I don't smoke or do drugs or anything. Never have. and I do agree that the government has no place to say what you can do.. but because it alters your state of mind I think they should have a say. Drunk driving/ driving while high hurts and KILLS people ALL THE TIME! So there for I would like rules in place to protect me from morons who do that. I'm not saying your a moron. Not at all. I know a lot of smart people who do drugs....just some people are stupid....
