Totally agree. You weren't there, you don't have any idea what caused it. There were plenty of other Buses on the trip with the same tires. |

This was the exit point of the road. I think it was a combination of speed and over-correction.
It could have been so much worse - 20 feet sooner and they would have fallen into a 20 foot deep ditch.

.... on a different topic... after blasting west on Forks Of Salmon road for two plus hours with all the cool cats, Natalie and I hooked it south on 96 needing to make 250 miles back to Santa Rosa pronto, no time for Kneeland Road or Alderpoint by that time. After a while, we found ourselves checked-out and on our own. Some where just after Wichpec, my timing went wildly advanced on me, the engine began knocking like something was broken (possibly hitting near BDC) and I pulled over fearing the worst. Pulled both valve covers looking for top end issues -nothing, tested the timing with my idiot light and BAM! Shit was WAAAAYYYY off. Busted out 10mm, rotated the distributor and was running smooth again in two minutes from a point that I had thought I was DNFed... talk about a rebate! Better than that, Hot Mama was off walking around and taking a leak and just happens to find a nice blown glass pipe WITH WEED IN IT! We turned that over to one of the other deserving teams and continued on home. More stories to come! |

Team Bad Dog not only took the LONG ROAD in to Shasta, we also took the long road home. Along the way we stopped to have some fun.
What better way to add some excitement to your Shasta trip than playing with some Magnesium that was collected from machining cases over the past few weeks.

Ouch! I'd seen a couple pictures from it, but that really shows how grisly it was. Am I mistaken or did the drums just tear off with the wheels? _________________ 9th Owner of a 1971 Tintop Westy

The rear reduction box broke in half and folded under with the drum, tire, etc. |

Nid, I certainly hope we dont run into each other next year on the trip. I am with Lou and the rest of the "true" Shasta Snow Trip community when it comes to your shit talking about this situation. That was a horrible accident, and Janai does not need to be ripped on like that as he has suffered more than anyone needs to. Take my advice when I say dont bother coming back, or stay waaay back from the rest of the pack, and dig your own bus out of the snow when your stupid ass gets stuck. Your a true piece of trash. Hope not to see you in the future. sincerely Dave of Team Pepto. |

Jahnai, Im sorry I misspelled your name on my last post. That is still a bitchen bus, and can be fixed. I would love to see you take another shot at it next year in the same bus. If there is anything that Team Southern Oregon can do to make that a reality from long distance, just message us and we will see what can be done. I REALLY want to see that thing on the road again! Jahnai -
You should post a list of the things you need to help the Bus live again. I'll bet many in the SST community would probably have stuff you need and be willing to donate it to the cause. I know I would if I knew what you needed. Just a thought. |

We already had to dig ourselves out because none of you guys would help us out last year. We were left so far behind we lost all contact with everyone for 90% of the trip and got stuck a few times. Nobody helped us at all except that one team that bothered to stop and hand over a distributor to help correct our problem, then we were left behind AGAIN. So that whole brotherhood bullshit is a laugh. You help who you want and ignore who you want, go right ahead.
I've been there twice, not once, and I was angry because I spent a lot of time trying to coach him on safety because it seemed like he would need the help. Then when I heard it flipped it honestly felt to me like all that I tried to help with was a waste of time and a bus.
Maybe I was a little hot headed with my initial response but it seriously seemed at first glance that the entire situation was avoidable, and it felt like a slap in the face.
VW and I have already talked over this on AIM and I told him I was sorry about the situation. I'd be more than happy to lend a hand if he needs it seeing as we're local and if the bus is truly savable that is good.
I've apologised to him and if you guys are going to austracise me for blowing off a little steam at one of my own friends, then you're honestly not worth the time to be around. _________________ My, you've been naughty. How.....Delicious.

well to get the bus goin again, things that immediately come to mind are
roof graft
high hinge cargo doors
drivers window frame and glass for door.
i guess im going to need a muffler too eventually
the roof rack was also smashed almost to the point beyond repair. its an all metal one. i may be on the search for another.
parts for repairing the wheels have already been donated by vwluver74, russell and the santa rosa/petaluma crew. although, we're not sure yet what shape the beam is in yet.
also, i dont know how much damage has been down to engine or tranny yet, but it looks as if the engine dropped about an inch, possible busting the top bolts or part of the case. who knows. ill be finding out more in teh weeks to come. ill keep everyone posted. thanks.
also, i did speak with nid. we talked bout it. i accepted his apology. _________________ Jahnai Pearson - VW Restoration Technician
