The only time I've ever seen an attendant in the UK they didn't put the cap back on the tank and I lost a load of fuel before I had a chance to stop and sort it out. Rolling Eyes

Confused My experience is worster... 8:10 AM: a at. girl in a gas station took my key, opened the rear cap of a VW Polo, and filled the tank of diesel fuel... of course, the Polo were a 1.8 MI gas version. Evil or Very Mad At 12:00, 3 attendants still were trying to clean the tank... and not to talk `bout injectors..

I always thought the fuel necks were different sizes to prevent that from happening?

Well.. no here Sad . The only warning is a sticker near fuel cap. In my case, the girl read "gasXXX" almost erased. Here, another way to call diesel fuel is "GASOIL", so the girl thought that. Besides, we donīt use the word "gasoline" or simply "gasolina" (that was what the stiker said) in spanish as the rest of america. we usually call he gas "Nafta".
If donīt believe here gas attendants are still alive (w/uniform and hat or cap) check this out:

Shocked

My buddy had an oval once where there was a nice tag next to the fill neck that said "PUT HOOD PROP DOWN BEFORE CLOSING HOOD!" The PO must have had a problem in the full serve isle and made up a nice tag so it wouldnt happen again. Wink

Not far from here (2 miles) is a gas station that pumps the fuel for you. Only one I've ever seen. And only one guy fills up the cars. So its the same guy, every time.

Only problem for me is that there is a big dip between the highway and the entrance, so I scrape hard every time. Surprised

Here's another Beetle at a gas station.
This one is my dad's '57 right after he had bought it new in France. This Esso station is in Loupmont, France where he live while stationed in the Air Force.

The cool thing is I own this beetle now and restored it back to stock condition 2 years ago.

ESSO...memories of having a tiger in the tank and free glasses with each fill up..

I remember having my 59 VW while a senior in High School and going to an ESSO station and putting a dollars worth of gas in it and heading to the Jersey Shore..Seaside Heights to be exact...a spring time "Hookey" day.

Got a free glass to boot.

Thanks. I am very lucky to have the car now and to have these color slides he took of the car soon after he bought it. Hopefully it will stay in the family.
