I have a 1600 SP all stock with 30-2 and an M distributor in my 65 Bug. Most reliable setup I've ever used. Getting 30+ mpg at 70mph. Still have points in distributor too. It always starts. |

i use this older post to show the photo of the famous hidden "screw" of a pict-2
it is very difficult to remove.
i discovered that also earlier pict 2 have another hidden screw. it is in the top of carb and is an adjustable air bleed screw for idle jet.. very nice!

I was just wondering what is the stock carburetor for 67 beetle? I thought it was the Solex 30Pict 2 but I read somewhere that this wasn't used until 1968? So that that make the Solex 30Pict 1 the stock carb for the 67 bug? Thank you! |

i second that the 30 pict2 is a very reliable carb. rock solid idle and good running. the jets are removable, at least on the 3 carbs i rebuilt. stock carb with stock dist. |

The 30PICT-1 was the carb used in 1967. The one used on 12V US-Spec 1500 Bugs had a base flange modification state number of VW 105-1 and the matching distributor was the 113905205K.
The 30PICT-2 jets are all removable, of course. But, it's not a jet that is behind that little cap screw, it's a needle.

The photo shows the Carb on a new (to me) 1968 Std Type 1. I'm wondering, what is the snout looking object attached to the front of the carb linkage by a rod that pushes and controls the idle on my bug. At start up the engine idles great, maybe a tad too slow but it idles. But after warm up the motor idles at high rpm. The rod/plunger coming out of the snout object controls the idle by adjusting a arm in the linkage.
Please ignore the dirt, grime, leafs and pine needles, I've only had it a week.
What is the snout looking object? How do I adjust it to work correctly? Is it worth keeping on the carb? Any suggestions?

That's the throttle positioner. It's only purpose it to hook to a secondary lever that'll pull the throttle open when you are "engine braking" - keeping the carb from fully closing even if your foot is off the pedal and coasting along in gear - this allows enough air into the mixture to reduce the amount of unburnt hydrocarbons coming out the tailpipe. The 66-69 Bentley Manual has a couple of pages talking about it.
Very original looking setup there! Even if dirty... still unusual to see so many original parts together. |

I have a 30PICT-2 carb and it had a 6Volt choke and idle jet. I changed it to a 12 Volt but the Idle jet is longer. Will it work? it screws in O.K. but sticks out farther. |
