Thanks for the post 58Dub.. Very Happy So yours has "S-10" and "H" for the letter, is it from the Drivers side, or Passenger? I wonder what the "S-10" means, and why mine is a "S-12"? The "H" must be an inspectors mark, "M" for my Jan 58, a "D" for a July 58, and a "H" for a Nov 58?

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=279505

The date codes on the Hella reflectors appear to coincide with year and month (1-12); unlike the Hella headlights, which are date-coded by week (1-53) and year. See the above thread for the year codes (S=1957, T=1958, U=1959). The big letter at the bottom is most likely either an inspector's stamp or indicates the batch/lot for a given month.

Ok, now it is making sense, I have the one stamped "T-1" which is Jan 58, and a "S12" a Dec 57. So 58 Dub's light should be a "T10" or "11" if his Car is a Nov 58... Rolling Eyes

Hey Aaron, the one you sent had a small "m" at the top along with the part# and the VW logo, but no date stamp? There is no stamping at the bottom? You have a "D" as a inspectors stamp right? You should also have a "T5" or "T6" as a date stamp??

I have a question. While im sure mucho searching would work, id rather ask in here and the answer benefit everyone. i dont mind looking foolish as i will admit im not a super bug guru.
Someone said to me that 58 and 59 rear windows were a bit smaller than 60-64.
Is this true? as in all the years and all the vws ive owned, this is something that has slipped by me. I have always thought 58-64 rear glass was the same.

Don't know if this is a 58/59 specific, but does anybody of you have picture of the spare wheel well for me? Mine was deadly rusted but I still can see that the pressing is different to what my repo sheet is and I am wondering if I could change this a little bit to look more original.

A picture from the inside and the outside would be great.
Thanks!

I don't know if this panel on my 59 is original or not. Looks like it's been around the block though.

Thanks. This looks good. Not too far away from my repo-part actually. I should be able to "optimize" the repo a bit.

Do you have a picture from the same spot from the outside, i.e. from under the car?

Mario brought this up when I sent him pics of my spare tire area. Notice the metal strip where the spare tire would sit, what is this for? I also notice that the bottom portion of Hootowls spare tire is raised?

I notice Sunroof's 1959 Canadian Sunroof Standard model. Does anyone else have an early square window standard model on here? Here is my German home-market May 1959 factory sunroof Standard model, delivered to Mahag in Munich and specially ordered in a colour from the Deluxe range available for that year, L14 Reseda Green, whereas Standards in Germany normally only came in L225 Jupiter Grey and L344 Reed Green. Took it to Hessisch Oldendorf last year and to Wolfsburg for its 50th anniversary.

Has anyone mentioned the 58-59 only wiper arms? I have a set on my 60 but the replacement swf blades are the generic driver side and do not have the smaller passenger side blade. Anyone have any specific measurements for the blade?

My '59 doesn't have the little metal strip. It looks EXACTLY like hootowls' though, only I've hammered most of the dents out (I can't get to the ones in the very corners though...).

How were the wiper arms '58/'59 only?

How do you tell a wiper set up for a 58/59, versus the generic ones offered up to 64?
