Looks good nice gob on the install.
Jetting can be tricky, I found that going down with the air correction jet was the best way to go to get a good fuel mix. I have a pepco on my BD deluxe and it pulls like a 1600 so I bet yours will be fun to drive in a bug. My carb set up is 28pci with 23mm venturi, 140 air,125 main, 50 idle.

thats what i also think and see on other setups....

my jetting first was:

34pci carb
28mm venturi
200 air Sad ...that i can't change with drilling...hehe
50 idle
140 main

now
i hav about 170 main
60 idle
stupid but i order jets tomorrow.
i don't really know how a 1600 runns i never drive on....this is my fist engine and my first bug engine that i build....for that not bad how i think.
i keep on posting
have a nice one

The air correction jet when you go smaller it lets it pull more fuel though the upper range. The OG pepco instructions say to solder the air correction jet shut and redrill to .052". So you could play with the size till you come up with what you need then buy one.

PostPosted: Thu May 14, 2009 11:55 pm    Post subject: judson boost -selfmade Supercharger 13 psi boost Reply with quote

next step.
kennedy stage 1 pressure plate for porsche 356 is ordered
sec. gear at 9 psi the clutch can't hold the power.
then the original "holder" from case to manifold broke and after that my manifold has a litle cut ..so it was to lean.
i weld this today and build a stromger holder.than i will go the next 1-2 weeks without supercharger to bring in the engine before i put it on again.

also a abarth 4 tip muffler is ordered.

next big step is close:

heads with 35,5/32 valves ...changed intake port are ready for the last work to fix a selfmade 34mm inner diameter manifold with bigger supercharger and single dellorto 38 or 40 xxx carb. but that comes end of the Year into the car. goal is 1192ccm 36 HP with 80-100HP.

new update,..after an operation I am fit again and startet playing around.

kennedy 180 pressure plate doesn't fit without other changings so I keep this to the big engine.
I now have a pressure plate with 9 springs and install this during the next 2 weeks.

I have prepared my manifold and now it is 100 % fit for boost.
I welded the pre warming because the supercharger do this now Smile .
than I changed the air correction to about 1,5mm (150) this is much better but a fast hit on the pedal is still a bit to lean I will go more down with the air correction.
at the moment I changed the water/methanol to 50/50 and startet injektion an about 0,4 bar this fills the hole and the engine goes preatty good.
idle extreme smooth at about 650RPM. now with closed pre warming and water injektion the manifold is way much cooler. befor it was not able to touch it and now its just warm. i also could set the timing a bit earlier.

than I also changed back to the old fan and the bad noise is gone...cooling efficiency is still ok.
ready for hessisch oldendorf.

a short video of the engine...damn it spins fast and high.

at the last weekend i had the chance to drive a 1965 with a 1600 50PS engine this engine was really good we drove it on the 1/8 mile with 13,05sec and bad reaction time but i think 1-2 more runs and it will definitly go into the high 12s.
but in comparative to the little screamer it was a lame ride Wink so now I am very curious about what the dyno says.

last update befor dyno:

engine runs very well and the AFR numbers are more then ok at the moment, but a bit fine-tuning befor finisch. idle at about 700RPM drivable like a big diesel engine and zippy like a scooter.
engine push 1 bar of boost and spins powerfull to 5000 RPM in 1st, 2nd and 3dr gear in the last gear I wll not drive it so fast Wink

during the next weeks I will find a dyno and will see how much horses will be inside.

it's in..and it will keep in place.
i am really in love with that carb.
at first i had a problem wich jumping mixture from adjusted to lean at idle and part load. but this is a old used part and it was play in the meteringgrove chamber..the arm was able to push lightly away.
easy to solve.
and now it is such easy to adjust i could all the time swich between gasoline and E85 in just a minute.
the engine likes the ca. 40% more flow and is happier+ more powerfull.
the AFR numbers are very good and the transitions are smoth.
next step is building a new manifold and changing the shaft to turn the body 80°, than i can close the bonnet.
