The Blue one at the beginning is my 74. I fixed my thermostat for the gas heater using trouble shooting here on Samba and fixed my fuel pump by putting a little WD40 in it and hitting it a couple of times on the bench. Works perfect and saved $200 which I used on other parts. That was on the 1973 that I restored.

Just watched it. I owned both a '74 back in the 80's, and more recently a '73... sure brought back some great memories.
No garage now, so my last Thing is gone. Heck, we even sold the Westy recently.
Someday I'll have another, or maybe go truly wild hair and get an Iltis. _________________ '85 Vanagon Westfalia |

What's the deal with the disclaimer during the credits roll about all modifications complying with the law when show was filmed?
Don't remember seeing that before. _________________ What are the last 2 words of the National Anthem?

Great show. He did pay to much for a not so perfect car though. I'm surprised the Thing Shop didn't get involved as a parts supplier. |

Are they now filming out of California? I always thought they were over seas. |

They setup some sort of "satellite" shop in California. Mostly for American vehicles. I'm sure the cost of shipping vehicles cut into the appearance of their "profit". _________________ Walküre Restoration Thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=737492 |

The only reason I found the show interesting was because I am a Thing owner. I would have probably turned the show off otherwise as it seemed to try to stretch the time to make it fit.
Yeah, those guys are in California now. Not sure if it is for one season or just that they were doing too much of same thing only different after a while.
They obviously used CSP disk brakes to keep the 14-inch wheels.
I would have jumped at $8,000, too. It shows just because an auction stalled under the reserve (at $7,700), it doesn't mean a good deal couldn't still be had. That's how I got my '71 Super. _________________ Now: 2003 New Beetle Turbo S / 1990 Single Cab Transporter / 2014 Tiguan R-Line 4motion / 2013 Tiguan S / 2002 Golf GLS TDI
