Classic weld failure, & sounds like basic wrenching experience is sorely lacking here. That 3-bolt flange is warped-to-hell, so straighten/flatten it.
Suggest get ahold of a pal who 1) can weld & 2) knows which end of the wrench to turn. Have him/her/it straighten the flange, clean-up the pcs, then jig-up/clock the flange & megaphone on the vehicle to re-weld them.
Weld it on BOTH sides of the flange.
Failing above, just replace it or drag the parts into the high school's metal shop class & plead millennial cluelessness, k?

so the bug had a swivel flange, and like snapped off, I did have locknuts and it was all secured. But just kinda sheared off due to heat and vibration. I don't know how to properly put it on. Thought I just needed a gasket and some bolts. Nooooope.

I'm not sure how compression works.
Turbos don't produce torque, they produce HP. Instead of torque.
The real problem with NA engines is you don't hear the nice whine of the turbo as it spools up.
Before I commit, I'm going to do more research because I don't really know what piston rings are.

Just to provide OP with a little empathy: In high school (circa 1986), I too was broke and inexperienced. I also had an open stinger where the pipe came off the flange - from bottoming on a speed bump or something.

Not knowing any better, and not having access to a welder, I attempted to connect two with plumbing solder and a propane torch. I got the two to stick together long enough to re-install it on the car. I backed out of the driveway, and made it about 15' feet before the pipe fell back off again. Laughing

You guys giving him a hard time should look back at yourselves. I'm sure every one of you have been in the same boat at some time in the past. Wink

Amen to that. Wherever there are humans someone is either getting a hand up or a boot on their head. The choice tells us more about the dude above than it does about the dude below!!!

I can remember using JB Weld on all kinds of things (mostly unsuccessful), saving pennies to get a propane torch kit (that really did nothing for me but loosen the occasional nut), feeling like the big time when I swapped in a bottle of map gas... because occasionally a little bit of braze would actually soften, and at the other end of the spectrum blowing holes in all kinds of things with a huge, very old, garbage-picked Lincoln electric stick welder.

Now I'm now enjoying the sh!# out of a small mig welder from Eastwood and it works on everything. Boy is that thing fun...

If you were on my street I'd weld that right up for you... check with your neighbors if someone has a welder I can promise you they love using it!!!
