While I cannot locate it now, I've seen photos where 2 or 3 lb barbell weights are carried and slipped over the pole ends. Being tied from lifting with the stake guy rope or slipped over the pole foot itself.
Honestly, I just got my ARB and haven't done anything but set it up because I can!

it looks a lovely bit of kit, but i would really want a good way of securing it while on tarmac _________________ 16" syncro multivan pop top AHU TDI

So I'm leaning toward buying the ARB while I can get it on sale at AutoAnything. I've read this whole post, but I don't see much on the accessories.
I can get the tent room, the screen room, the 3-wall kit, and the wind breaks. I'd like to know, though, if any of them can be used together.
For example, if I want to put up the screen room, can I then add the wind breaks or add the walls if it starts raining? Or does each accessory zip on to one attachment point that can't add a second accessory?
Thanks,

I will say, ARB offers far more accessories than I'll ever use. I say that now.........Just wait _________________ '90 Westy / automatic.

Hello there!
I am going to order an awning this week but I need some advice before purchase. I am leaning towards buying the ARB awning but I am not sure if it will clear my roof rack or if I'll have to do some modifications for it to fit.
If I move my rack a bit forward the ARB mounts would fit nicely where they´re supposed to sit. What I am concerned about is if the awning will clear my roof rack attachments. It might be hard to tell with these images but I want to give it a shot! What do you think?

If it´s possible to mount the awning as usual without modifying anything, that would in my eyes be the simplest and best solution. I have a few ideas on how to mount it to the rack as well but I am not very good with metal stuff, that´s why I am trying to avoid it. If you have an idea how you would do it feel free to share! Hah..
By the way, I´ve been reading your westy thread and I have learnt a lot. Thank you for sharing! |

I agree with Dave about mounting the awning to your roof rack for I vision your roof rack supports as being in the way for any chance of the awning to be mounted independently. _________________ '90 Westy / automatic.

The higher you can mount it the better. |

I am ordering an ARB awning tonight. If anyone know a cheap place to order it from in Europe that would be great!
How come the higher the better? I feel like it would look really bad if the awning came up as high as the black part of my roof rack, I will probably mount some metal to the rack and then the awning to the metal to get it down a bit.
Thanks for the help everyone! |

Acutally,
I'm leaning to agree with djkeev to simply mounting on against the big black side panel. _________________ '90 Westy / automatic.

Yep! Mine is mounted on my Yakima crossbars(tintop) and I don't think I'd like it near as much if it was on the gutters. I'd lose about 10" in headroom.

Update on the mounting. Thanks everyone for the help!
Attachment on the roof rack. Had to put on a metal plate and buy bigger bolts because of the shape and depth of the rack.
First test!

Just got one on AutoAnything, though I'm still weighing bracket options.
The older posted Promocodes are expired, but PINN20 gave me 20% off plus free shipping. $289 down to $231. |
