^ that was my thought too, a lot lighter than an old minx. I wasn't sure they were exported to the usa but it seems about 5000 were but badged 'sunbeam imp' - it was not a success.

Hillman Minx California |
In the early 60s my sister had a 58 or 59 Hillman Minx as a commuter car for going to college. As I remember it was not unpleasant, but thoroughly uninspired. It did have leather seats which smelled nice. She had to live through a number of unfortunate mechanical breakdowns before she finally gave up and sold it for almost nothing. _________________ Larry in OB

the fiat topolino chassis was a popular source for racing car makers as it had a nice transverse leaf spring wishbone set-up. the early cooper race cars as driven by stirling moss used this set-up for both front and rear suspension

Custom-built Cheetah Transporter in SoCal, completed 1961. Cab was based on a Chevy El Camino.
Restoration article- https://www.hemmings.com/stories/2018/08/31/after-...estoration The article mentions that the wheelbase was comparable to a Beetle at 94" (Beetle is 94.5" = 2400 mm).

Ever driven a stretch limo?
I have, they tend to swing through a turn, rather than turn as expected in a shorter vehicle. It's a weird feeling. _________________ I have learned over the years.

Similar to riding a tandem bicycle. It's a very weird feeling that you grow accustomed to very quickly. _________________ nothing |
