I saw that deck lid...something isn't right, like maybe a bottom half grafted on or something to use the later deck lid latch? The edges of the "W" look really tall...bondo'd |

Damn! I love that, if I'd seen it at the time it would now be in Greece _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia - Sold

The crease that goes on the center of the W is now flattened. That lid is horrible _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

I thought the same thing...I kept switching back and forth between a pic of my oval and that 53. It doesn't have windshield trim...but the glass looks like it's bigger for sure. |

Looks like someone took a 61-66 ignition switch and cut off the mounting tab. Then welded the tab from a 54-57 oval switch onto it so it would fit the oval's dash. Then finally, installed the lock cylinder from a 58-59 switch.
It would never occur to me to do all that work to make a switch. _________________

"Rare" 1957 Ragtop.... what makes it rare? 57' Ragtops aren't very rare. Oh and it hasn't been "boogered" up. It was on a path of no return when some hillbilly sprayed it General Lee orange, stuck cheap cal-look rubber in it because they were too lazy or stupid to install the chrome and then left the original red interior in it? No pics of the engine... and late model trim rings seal the deal.

and of course it's OG. I'm so sick of OG in ads. That thing is toast.... 50.00 wall art. You can buy metal re-pops for 125.00 more. _________________ DB

I wonder if he was influenced by the other ads for Ws in the classifieds right now.
All of them look massively overpriced. |
You're right. I just looked, only one for $100 that looks nicer than the $349 burnt one. |

I honestly think the over priced w-lids are a direct reflection of the seller having ABSOLUTELY NO idea of how much work it's going to take to repair the lid. An original paint W with no work needed, hinges in nice shape and light included (with all the pieces)...ask $500. I can bolt that on and move on... Don't expect to get $349 for a lid that has burnt in a fire, has 2 or more coats of 80's paint and primer, and is warped all to hell from heat, plus a light with how many dents that are damn near IMPOSSIBLE to get the crease back in the beak without filler (with my skills anyways). |
