Hi,

Can someone help on finding the right color for the steering wheel, colum, gear lever and handbrake, for a 1957 Rag Oval (L378 Prairie Beige)?

Thank you so much

Joao

Sorry forgot to mention that.

It's a Deluxe model with red leatherette.

Thanks

Hi,

There is much discussion and much confusion over original paints.

The original formulas, because of lead removal and tint discontinuation, often don't match the original color but.....
The original colors are most often dirty and faded and......
The documentation on colors used sometimes conflicts or isn't even listed and......
Sometimes two examples of the same car have differences in colors!

That all being said, It is generally accepted that the 57 has Grey Beige # L 472 as its paint on the seat frames and steering wheel assemblies.

here is a link to a poor representation of it but it does have the original formula.

http://www.karmannghia.org/paint_chips/laq_15.gif

IF you have any original paint that isn't badly faded it may be easier to get it color shot at a auto paint store and see what they can do.
IF you go that route and are happy with the result, Please post what they sold you and the mix for others to use as they restore their cars.

Best of Luck to you
Dave

Hi,

Yes, I thought of suggesting WW too, but look at his location, He is in Portugal.
International shipment of paint is a very expensive thing to do. It is considered a hazardous product and can only be mailed in the USA if it is so labeled as paint, meets certain volatility standards and then can only be ground shipped.
Not practical to literally "ship" paint overseas.
