I've been searching the forums and can not find where you can locate on the van a code plate like the vin plate on the inside of the drivers door to list what the van came with from the factory. My van has power mirrors but lack the Power part of the mirror. Probably those blasted wires at the door jam. I have been wondering what else my van came equiped with from the factory that also is not working and or from the PO is now missing. Anybody have any ideas?

Why don't you go back and retitle yopr thread as "M-code List" or "M-number List" so someone can find it easier while searching.

Good point mightyart

I had a look for mine under the passenger seat and there it was.

along with the paint code.

But my passenger side is opposite to yours, guessing it's under the drivers seat.
I have had a sticker on the drivers side just above the Accelerator pedal, but it's been pealed off at some point

the service book had all the codes in, gearbox, engine, paint, chassis etc.

Thanks kev,
I can't find one in the places you're suppost to look. Crying or Very sad
Could have been removed of course, I also have nothing in the red service booklet.
Has anybody in the US looked for yours and found it? and where was it?

Had both of my front seats out at the time of the post and there was nothing under either of them and as the other places, nada?! Maybe they were not on US models?

Still haven't found my plate and sticker yet! (and I have looked) Anyway this guy describes his plate and sticker in detail and it may give people an idea what they are looking for, if they find it.

I've a feeling the US spec Vanagons don't have them.
This is the plate that came on the 81 Vanagons service manual:

Oh, they have them. I am holding the original warranty book for one of my 1982 vans in my lap. Page numbered 1 has a sticker on the right half with everything, including the M codes. Paint code, engine code, tranny code, VIN, etc. The other half of the page also has the VW dealer info where it was purchased, in Calif.

The metal ID plates are riveted in place under the drivers side seat. The last 8 digits of the VIN are there as well as M codes for some features. My 82, 86, 87, and 90 all have the plate.

My 84 Westy with the swivel seats doesn't have the ID plate, just 2 empty rivet holes where the plate would be. The swivel plate would block the ID plate if it was there. The Westy has a sticker below the fuse box. The sticker faces down so that I have to be on the ground looking up to see it.

The plate is under the drivers seat mounted to the side wall toward the passenger side . You have to push the seat all the way forward open the 2nd battery hatch and look again its there .

Sorry there sideways.

Ok, here are photos of the ID plates and stickers. The riveted metal plates would be hidden by the welded in swivel seat base plate and so may not be present on factory swivel seat models. My 84 Westy has no plate there under the seat, but does have a sticker under the fuse box as shown in photo. The 82 warranty book page 1 shows a sticker that was put there at time of sale from a document package that came with the vehicle. Looks like the sticker on the 84 Westy, so maybe the 84 sticker was placed by the dealer?

Does this apply to Type 1's as well? I have an unidentified M number on my certificate, M401, which is on this list.

Well, let's see if this information helps or confuses the "weekender" confusion.

I recently purchased a 1986 Vanagon.
Partial production date of 5/86 and a production date of 7/86.

Serial number is WV2XB0252GH112***

Westfalia "Pop Top"
3 person rear seat, becomes a bed
Rear cushion over engine cover
1 rear facing jump seat behind the driver
No swiveling front seats
Storage cabinet in left rear 1/4 panel
110 volt outlet with exterior connection plug.
Odd plug by passenger seat, I presume for the removable refrigerator?
Fluorescent light over table
3 wall mounted cup holders
2 Wolfsburg Emblems one on each side in front of each front door

It came with the original books from the dealer. It was sold new by a Massachusetts dealer to a Connecticut resident. Owner 1

It ended up at a VW dealer in Cape May NJ and was purchased in February 1991........ Owner 2. They sold it to me yesterday.

I am owner 3

One of the books was this one.. "Camper Wolfsburg Edition"

A few select pages showing this version has the fold away table, rear facing jump seat and does NOT have a kitchen....

I will be scanning all of the manuals in their entirety for Everett to include in the various reference sections here.

That exterior 110 was almost certainly added by a PO. Not a bad idea though. I was thinking the same, but I camp with electricity perhaps once a year.
