Dont know if it would fit here or not. I recently started on another project, an old Attex 6x6. Well for cheap tires I went with golf cart rims and tires, but put my own twist on it.

In a pinch you can always get creative and do something like this. _________________ '69 Baja, Crusty 62 bug

Hey all just found a GREAT list of popular tires that are avalible, I have a feeling that not all the sizes are on the list But it does show you what there is out there for those of us State side. I'm still working on a list of options for the fronts, i.e. 700x15s, and 235 and less widths
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

My next pair of rear tires are coming from Treadwright. Heard lots of good things about their re-treads.
http://treadwright.com/ |
I finally got a pair. Nice aggressive MT tread, but they are not pretty. You can tell they are retreads by looking at the side wall, but only if you knew they were retreads in the first place. Most won't notice. They balanced ok, and are good at highway speeds. I haven't had them in the dirt yet, so time will tell.

AS i live close to the treadwright guys, i went to their plant to go look at a set.. I was nervous about buying recaps..i heard lots of horror stories from my trucker friends. my fears were substantially put to rest when i saw six new MT's on his brand new Dodge.
So i said what the hell i bought a set of 33's for my lifted suburban. i was amazed at the amount of mud i went through in 2wd. and they were suprisingly quiet. I am a BFG fan, and i keep forgetting that i should just go and buy three of the trearwright guy's tires for less than 2 bfg's.
The only question that i have, i know you cant have recaps on the steer axle's for commercial vehicles, but I am not sure about for passnger vehicles. |

It's supposed to be a Cooper tire. Cooper makes the most under-rated tires in the world. Michelin did a study a few years back that wasn't published due to the Cooper results. _________________ ---

So how do you know of these Michelin findings? Not trying to be a dick, but I like reading real data and if you have access to it, post it up for everyone to see. |

Unfortunately, no and your dick-ness is accepted, appreciated and probably appropriate. Ex-wife is a tire designer/production manager. Around 2004(?) I heard much about this new thing they were coming out with for their site. It was a comparative analysis/recommendy sort of thing based on a crap ton of research they had done. Then I heard about all these cool findings about their tires and how their website recommending software was doing and how Cooper kept coming up. Then the website went kaput, and, FROM WHAT I HEAR it was mostly because the Cooper stuff compared so favorably with a company that felt it made the best tires for the best price in the world. It's conjecture/bs but the point is Cooper DOES make good stuff, and no one knows it. Ex wifey basically said "Cooper makes a really good tire!" Respect wasn't something she gave easily. _________________ ---

I do agree, Cooper makes a good tire, But i replaces my cooper discover H/t's for my Michelin LTX M&S for less money on my pickup. I think i have a touch better tire also... |

Carlisle tires - available at many shops via American Tire Distributors (83 distribution centers servicing all or parts of 37 states) and I imagine some farm stores ,etc distribute them as well. About half the price of brand name off road tires.

I'm glad I dug up my thread... it's good to see folks putting new info. up, that was the point of this thread.
vw_nick: I didn't think of looking into the Aggy/Construction tires because I had the prethought that they would be super stiff and heavy but those Trac Chief tires are looking good for a Woods Buggy _________________ (o=|=o) Life before play... Damn! it's gonna be awhile. |

Definity 235-75-15 MT all around, although they did require some extensive fender trimming, rework of the headlight buckets and a few well placed blows with a 5-lb sledge to fit. 4-outings to date and I'm happy. In spite of the heavy Thing, they feel good in loose gravel washes and foof dirt.

yeah, they do look like they would work well. All my coworkers run the tru-power 29x12.50x15 on 10" wide wheels, un-cut. They work well in the woods (that's what we've got around here) and they all have 3+ seasons on them... one recently had his first puncture last month. I got a new pair of them for $100 so that's what I'll be running too, but I've got mine on 8" wide wheels... buggy still unfinished. I'm not planning on cutting mine - I'm more interested in durability and rock / stick puncture resistance. I've got a couple of hours of seat time in one of the coworkers buggies and and in my position, I suspect the reduced weight and additional flexibility wouldn't outweigh additional cost and decreased service life. _________________ Nick |
