Thanks for the kind words derluftwagen and 56Cabrio. I try to do quality work in all that I do. Will be going to more vw car shows/swap meets displaying the work that I do. Today I pulled out body and pan out of the garage and swapped spaces. It was the first time in almost 10 years that they were out of the garage. Now I can finish installing steering box, brakes and related parts for front end. I also finished the 57 steering wheel for a customer. I think it came out pretty nice. This belongs in the splitwindow forum but this is what I have been working on trying to also finish for the treffen in Sept. A 50 split 11G car. Thanks, Ruben

That wheel looks sweet. The "other guys" wheels seem to last only a few months before they start to crack to shit. I think a flex agent will help prevent cracking so they last a bit longer. You should show the batwing wheels you do, I bet you could make some cash over the other guy. If you were to make the horn buttons for the 55 and earlier you could retire!!
How much do you charge for a recast?
Send a pm if you do not feel comfortable here.
Thanks |

Worked on pan today. Installed steering box, tie rods, shocks, brakes, brake lines, e brake handle and e brake cables. I found my problem with the cables, as I had something turned around I corrected it and now they work. Hope to install brake drums, tires and any loose ends on pan tomorrow. If everything goes well, body will be installed on pan this weekend. Been waiting almost 10 years for this to happen.

Worked on pan today. Installed front shocks, brakes, brake lines, tie rod ends and tires. Need to put gear oil in trans and body will be ready to set on pan. Need to get a couple people over to help set it. Still looking for a rebuildable 54 eng block to get motor rebuild going. Thats all for now.

Hello everyone, we put body on pan today. It went smoothly and lined up perfectly. A long time coming for this to happen. Now on to bolt chassis down, motor rebuild and interior.

A couple of days ago, I asked my brother where was the sunroof mech and rails. He went looking for them and could not find them. Big problem, as that stuff is expensive to buy. He searched everywhere and no luck I asked him today if he might have stored it at a friends house and by luck he had stored it at his best friends house. Keep in mind this was 10 years ago. At the time he did not have a place to store some stuff and his friend let him use some space in his garage. Got the assembly home, it's missing a couple of pieces but a coworker is going to fabricate them. I am polishing the rails and going to rebuild the assembly. Will post more pics of the refurbisment.

Went to the Classic on Sunday. I found a few parts for my brother's 54 but no luck finding a 54-55 case. Taking a week off from working on the car, as I have other projects to complete. Will post pics when more progress is done. Thanks

No, its a BR8, date coded Oct 54. Paid $10 for it and looks to be in good cond. For all the above pictured parts, I paid $60 for all. I think I did pretty well on parts. |

I'm a long way from painting my car...but everytime I see you've added pics to this thread, I get inspired to get some Ultramaroon paint ordered up!! Damn, this car is really taking shape Ruben! Just build ANY 36hp, and drive that sucka'! I'm on the 55' case search myself, but keep finding 58/59' stuff. I think I have 4 of them now So that's what's getting built. Lookin' good!!

Hello everyone, haven't had a chance to work on beetle lately. My brother has been saving for remaining items and have had no luck in finding a good 54-55 case. I decided to work on car today, as I had some free time. I installed headlights, tailights and steering column and remaing dash items. Last items to finish wiring will be wiper motor and blaupunkt radio to finish dash. The body has not been bolted down yet, as car was missing the plates and 14mm bolts. I talked to my friend and he has a set of plates/bolts for pan and they are already black oxide plated. He is also going to sell him a complete set of 14mm fender bolts also done in black oxide ready to install. So in the next week or so, body will be bolted down. I picked up a 4 brick hood crest but the mounting tabs are broken. I will have to fix it and then I can install hood moulding. Thats all for now.

L 276 ultra maroon has never been one of the most popular colors but I think you are about to change that. Car looks fantastic, great job. |
