So this might be a stupid question.
How much is a westfalia camper/caravan worth and how rare are they?
Today I went a different route home and I passed this old camper. I thought it was kinda different looking, didn’t put much thought into it as I’ve passed it a few times. I got home, was looking through social media and saw a VW bus pulling a similar camper. Then it hit me that it was likely a westfalia camper that I saw. Anyways I might take pictures on Monday. But it’s sitting in a front yard looking abandoned. Is it something I should possibly try to get? It looked like the bigger model camper/caravan
Thanks. _________________ 1964 sunroof Beetle Restoration "Herbie"

This 1962 Westfalia trailer similar to the above is listed on Seattle CL. Has the same handles on the rear. Cool.

I did actually borrow one from someone local, who we seem to see about once a month. I consider it an *extreme* level of trust that the handle was lent us.
It looks a bit tricky to make a really good repro, though.
I was really hoping to find a pair of originals, a repro would be second best. I know the caravans aren't common, but the westy kits for VW are very rare. So it is very exciting to see so many caravans with the handles. I googled Westfalia caravan and found tons of pics! It makes me hopeful that someone has a parts rig around, or some extra bits.
There seem to be many more in Europe so I might have to look over there. At least they are small and easy to ship.

I am looking for the handles for the campingbox cabinet for my October 60 camper.
I think they are the same as the handles put on late 50s/ early 60s Westfalia camping trailers.
I saw this on a camper at the Prado campout:
I started searching for images of 265 - 3 Westfalia camping trailers and found lots more pics. :D But does anyone know a good place to find this part? I think many camping trailers came with 4 of them! Maybe learn German ebay? Anyone know of a classifieds for old westy camper trailer items? _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

We got this 1965 Apache Silver Buffalo pop tent trailer. It resembles the cars of the 60's. It is all aluminum with silver anodizing and it has a good tent still.

Greetings from BC Canada.
I am researching my father's Westfalia trailer that he purchased in Germany in 1960 when we lived in France. He brought it back to Canada in 1963, and then to Kelowna BC in 1964 or 65 when he retired from the Canadian Air Force. He sold it several years later to someone who spoke German because the manual was in printed in German.
Our trailer looked exactly like this one - complete with the awning (which is where we three kids slept usually.
Do you have any history of this trailer? It would be very cool if it is the same one
Thank you.
Sue
Thank you. |

You may have to use a custom made seal. Don't be scared. Careful measurements of your axle and bearing housing will result a a well-made seal that will be just as good as original equipment. The low numbers of Westfalia Caravans that were produced lead me to believe you will have a difficult time finding your replacement seals on the shelf at your local Schuck's O'Reilly Auto Parts store, EVEN IF you did have a valid part number.
Check these guys out: http://www.technicalspecialties.com/
Some friends that build antique cars have used them with great results.

I just picked up a 1958 Westfalia Caravan like this one, (except mine still has the original Westfalia stamped hubcaps rather than VW caps.) The woman I bought it from owned it for the past 12 years and she ended up needing money in a hurry. Thankfully it is well-preserved. I haven't decided what to do with it just yet.
