|
|
Good day,
I bought the wheels off CP1 site and they are on their way. I was wondering whch wheel to put due to the stock height on the bug. I am not going to lower the car. Issues already with the muffler
One iof my options is:
front: 165R15
rear: 205/60R15
Other option:
front: 185/60R15
rear: 205/60R15
If anyone has any thoughts and/or pics of their bugs please post to compare.
Thanks in advance. _________________ 1970 Beetle Turbo 2109cc MS II EFI, W/M Injection, Intercooler, FORD Wasted Spark Coilpack, 48lb. Injectors.

If staying stock I would do 195 on all 4 then you can rotate them and last a long time. _________________ 59 bug slammed with cosmics |

C'mon, youre putting cosmics on and dont even want to lower it a little bit? Jason is 100% correct that you could get all 4 the same and it would help with rotations but would probably look better if you used a slight lower profile tire up front, which could drop you a couple inches and give it a faint rake! that would look killer on cosmics! sorry, just ignore me if you dont like the idea. It will look good regardless. what color is the car, by the way? |

185/65/15 front and either 195/65/15 rear or 205/65/15 rear. 195/65/15 are just slightly smaller than a stock 165r15 in overall dameter and 205/65/15 is just slightly larger than the 165r15 in OD. or if you wanted to run with the suggestion of same size all around for rotation i'd run 195/65/15 or 185/65/15 on all 4 corners.
being that the repops are et45 they will sit inward from where a stock et34 bug wheel would sit by about 1/4" or so. if you go 185/65/15 up front you should be able to run dropped spindles should you so choose. i have never liked nice custom wheels on a stock height bug. not saying it has to be slammed. dropped spindles and an inch or two out back just to get rid of the tire to fender gap. if that exhaust is dragging at stock height that a flaw in the design on the exhaust i wouldn't hold back on the rest of a car for poorly designed exhaust...ken.... _________________ ITMC

Good day,
I went to install the two 165r15 tires I had and they are rotted. Great
These wheels I bought (cosmics repo's) have a ET 45. Can I put 205/60r15 in the back without any issues?
Recently a friend lend me his Empi's 8 spokes which have ET 40 with 205/60r15 tires and I did not encounter any issue.
My concern is that I buy the tire and then I'm stuck with it. I want some advice on this ET 45 issue with wheel rubbing somewhere.
Today I left the disc/drums in the machine shop and hopefully me friend does them tomorrow.
Thanks,

I bought a used set of 4 Michelin 195X60X15's with 1/2 the tread left for $60 at Big B Used Tires and ran them for 2-3 years on my squareback. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

I just mounted the rims on the car with the 165r15 I had and bought 2 185/65r15 tires. The car looks good with them. I had to install spacers up front because the caliper hits the inside of the rim.
There is no rubbing at all on all four tires, for now these tires will have to do. When I finish tuning the webers, fix some body then I'll buy the other two 185's.
Thanks to all. _________________ 1970 Beetle Turbo 2109cc MS II EFI, W/M Injection, Intercooler, FORD Wasted Spark Coilpack, 48lb. Injectors. |

Here is a recent photo of the car outside...
I had issues up front with the calipers like I stated before. After that I noticed lilke a "clunk" at the rear. I started looking around and noticed that the bumper stop was interfering with the backside of the rim on both sides so I bought some thin spacers and resolved the matter.
Looking around at the rear I noticed that the pan is IRS. I have a swingaxle tranny. The car is 1970. At least its running. _________________ 1970 Beetle Turbo 2109cc MS II EFI, W/M Injection, Intercooler, FORD Wasted Spark Coilpack, 48lb. Injectors. |

Haven't managed to find a more appropriate thread, so please excuse this if my question seems off topic.
Question: What is the stock ride height of your adverage 58-67 bug?
Measurement from the bottom of the shock tower to the road
I understand that measurements will differ from car to car, but if possible just a rough idea of where a stock beetle of this vintage should sit.
Thanks guys |

I don't know about from the bottom of the shock tower to the road, but most jurisdictions specify a minimum distance from the center of the headlight to the road of 24" (or used to). _________________ On a lifelong mission to prove (much to my wife's dismay) that Immaturity is Forever!! |
