Anyone still driving their VW daily?

Thank you, I was afraid of that .

As a Mechanic since the 1960's who worked in rural farm communities and biut my own first vehicle from a junked less than 10 year old Ford pickup truck I learned the value of parts vehicles early one .

I now live in town and don't want my yard full of junkers .

I was lucky in that I learned patch work at the same time I got my various factory and dealer training, this allowed me to be able to build good running and long lasting leak free used 1300, 1500 & 1600 engines for installation in the hundreds of used cars I 'Salvage Reconstructed' and sold as a side line to support my family .

I'm off to read your 'grapes of wrath' story.....

I just took my JavaGreen 67 for a short country drive this afternoon.
It's "corn on the cob" season here. So I support my local farmers when the seasons fit my dietary desires.

I noticed the JG 67 has a noisy speedo cable. I'll lube the housing and see if that quiets it down.

Sorry, no pics, I was so excited to get corn on the first day it was available.
I forgot to take a pic at the farm.

The JG 67 is just a fun car. Not a daily driver. I have a 20 Tundra for that.
I don't think Intel would appreciate a 67 VW inside the construction fences.

Drive her all summer long... once the rain dries up in Portland.

Will be sad to see her go to a new loving home... but excited for the person who becomes the next owner after my 16yr run with her.

That's a lovely ;67 Cory ! .

Of course I drive my vintage VW daily, I'm in Long Beach today and it's parked outside where I can keep an eye on it .

Coming down the 605 freeway before sun up I passed a '69 (or so) Typ II unrestored Kombi in white over blue, he was in the fast lane until I passed him and beeped hello, the next thing I knew he passed me with his engine turning 7,000 RPM or so before easing back to the slow lane and slowing down again .

Remember : keeping the engine stock means freeway or Desert high speed travel won't hurt nor overheat it .

We had rain the other day so I drove my '59 # 113 survivor into the mountains where I discovered very little traffic and empty roads, going through the clouds was fun as always and enjoying driving in shirt sleeves with the driver's side window open my feet toasty warm with the 100 % bone stock 'stale air' heater.....

Not daily driving my 67. But I do enjoy a nice evening drive, when the weather cooperates.

I finished an alternator install last week, before knee surgery.

I needed to get out of the house this evening for a drive in the JavaGreen 67.

Took the JG67 for a rather longer drive than I have been locally, today.
The weather out was in the twenties this morning.
Note the frost on the hood and VW emblem.

This was one leg of a 40 mile drive this morning.

The return leg was much nicer with the late day temps being a little more reasonable. Sorry no pic of the return leg of the voyage.

Within reason. I use my 67 almost every day. I draw the line at road salt. The first day the DPW salts the streets is the last day I’ll drive it til spring. I do love driving it though

This afternoon, I drove to our local machine shop to pick up a set of heads and a resurfaced flywheel.

I live in the SF Bay Area and Drive into work from the East Bay to SFO Airport. I take the 1966 bug on the approx. 100-mile round trip once every week or two. I average about 5k a year on the numbers matching bug. F series block converted from 1300 to 1600. I have owned a few bugs and this is the most powerful 1600 I have ever driven. I don’t know anything about the specs on the cam, cylinders or pistons and honestly my understanding of all that is tested with that last statement. It cruises well at 65 and I can pass at 70 but don’t really spend any time above 65.

It is SOO much fun to Drive

It's December 30th 2023 and So. Cal. has an infrequent rain going on so of course before dawn I saddled up my trusty 1959 #113 Deluxe Bug and hit the empty roads .

I use a product called RAIN-X on the exterior glass so as soon as I exceed 35 MPH the water just rolls off ~ no need for windshield wipers at all .

The heater is working fine (36HP & early 'whistler' fan) and I keep a 'defroster' draped over the passenger side seat back in case I need it .

There was supposed to be a rain or shine coffee & cars but no one showed up ~ what a bunch of pussies .

Mostly it's $40,000.00 + show cars there but the occasional fake Hot Rod or embarrassing "!!PATINA!!" piece of crap .

I sat listening to the rain patter on the roof a while, reading by book but gave up and came to get a coffee Slurpee and free WiFi you know where .

Hardships of DD in the PNW winter. With no heater its pretty undrivable even with rain and fog X on the glass so driving with windows down or cracked is required.

New wish list item to add is a new diesel heater so the kids wont freeze
