|
|
All,
Whether you want it, need it, ripped it out, or can't stand it - like it or not it was part of the car. I've done many searches on this topic but have never found a complete visual or a thread that makes sense...don't even try to read the '73 schematic. So, I thought I would make my own and when it is complete try and submit it to the diagram section for those interested.
I've had my car for 16 yrs and its the only thing a PO disconnected. What is shown is what is left in my car. I do not know what is missing or where the connections are made for the "?'s" shown. I know there are several of you that have your seat belts working so if you please, lend me a hand. Please be as specific as possible so I can complete the image.
**My year did not have the emergency brake circuited.**

Both seat belt warning systems work in my 73 standard, I didn't know the passenger side had one until I was installing my new seats (original 73's) and saw the wire dangling down..I found where it plugged into and figured that it might be heat( I got these seats out of a 73 at a friends house) But the first time I had a passenger come along for the ride with me, the stupid Seat Belt warning system went off..Obnoxious thing..but it serves its perpose. _________________ PNW Dub Folk & Kitsap dub Folk (KdF)

Redvolk65 - What are the colors of the wires coming out of the seat sensor...also what type of ends do they have? _________________ 1973 (Vin: 113-xxx, Model 113 841) Deluxe (non super) Beetle. Born Wed., Aug. 23rd, 1972. Flat windshield, upright spare, generator and oil bath. 95% Original. |

btw - I don't think it has to just be a 73. Any one can give me info from their 73' and younger beetle. _________________ 1973 (Vin: 113-xxx, Model 113 841) Deluxe (non super) Beetle. Born Wed., Aug. 23rd, 1972. Flat windshield, upright spare, generator and oil bath. 95% Original. |

Wilco, I'll take some pictures when I have access to a camera, and I'll follow the wires to where ever it is they go and report back to you. _________________ PNW Dub Folk & Kitsap dub Folk (KdF)

For what it's worth there is a reference to a page "N" on the wiring diagrams for 1973. Probably referencing a diagram in a Bentley book.
Ignition Switch/Safety Belt Interlock -- see page N. _________________ Walküre Restoration Thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=737492 |

Semper - Yes, on page "s" in the Bentley there is a diagram showing the "Circuit that Eliminates Seatbelt Interlock", however, its in that hard to read (for me) system that they went to after '72 AND I believe its from '74ish - 76ish when they had the emergency braked hooked up as well when there were big problems with the system. My system is the pre-emergency break system. Thanks for the thought though. _________________ 1973 (Vin: 113-xxx, Model 113 841) Deluxe (non super) Beetle. Born Wed., Aug. 23rd, 1972. Pretty dirty but here it is.
These 3 go over to the passenger side, there is a brown, Gray with red stripe and a Black with Green strip.
Drivers side
Red wires there connect to the seatbelt lock plug.
One of the red wires goes into the plug that screws onto the pedistal. The other red goes into the harness. The other wire connected to the red one there is a brown with black stripe.
2 brown ones that connect to that white strip that goes in the seat, which connects to the plug thats screwed onto the pedistal.
And there was one more plug, but i believe it was just a ground, it was a brown wire.
Let me know if you need a specific picture. _________________ 75 Standard FI 1600

I have attached a snip from the Late 1972 wiring diagram taken from Samba. You can download the entire diagram. This is the actual seat belt wiring portion.
Hope this helps.

Porsche60: I'd like to finish the diagram...are you sure what you have drawn in is correct? Are the wire connections you have drawn singles or one double? Are you sure there isnt a plastic connection similiar to in the photo that webbl already posted? _________________ 1973 (Vin: 113-xxx, Model 113 841) Deluxe (non super) Beetle.
