Behind the wheel arches in the luggage compartment behind the back seat. The one at the top has an aperture for the warm air tube coming towards the front. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

I found similar pieces in the same area over the rear wheel wells of an a 71 Karmann Ghia Vert with all original interior. They look a little different but are these the same parts as found on the 68 above? Only the left side has a hole in the center. What is the purpose of the hole?

Huh, that seems like a different part. The other ones were meant to cover a hole and show. Did yours show or were they under something? _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0

On the 71, it is hidden by the carpeting, and the lower rear portion of the headliner. It might be different due to the 68 are from a coupe and mine are from a Vert. In addition, after 69.5 the convertibles tops had gone through a major change with a glass rear window. The sides of the rear seat area were changed as well. _________________ Marc

Hi all!
My '68 coupe Ghia has no dash emblem and I'm hoping someone has a pic of the correct placement for it so I can replace it correctly.
Thanks in advance! _________________ Why is the rum gone?!

Here's my all original 68 Dash. Even the sticker for the Autostick shift pattern is original which is visible behind the right side of the steering wheel.

Thanks! My dash has no opening for a radio, is that usual? Seems odd to have nothing at all. The dash is probably aftermarket if I had to guess. _________________ Why is the rum gone?!

Radios were dealer installed so Ghia's didn't have radios when they left the Karmann Factory. The earlier painted dash had blank plates to cover the radio hole. The dealer had to cut a hole in the wood laminate to install the radios. Back then not everyone wanted a radio. My how times have changed! _________________ Marc

If your dash is original, you should have a wood grain laminate and at least have holes from where an emblem used to be. Since you don't seem to have existing holes, your dash must have been recovered. An original dash that has never had a radio would look like pictures 27 & 31 in this link.

Here's a pic of my dash.
No wood grain laminate, it appears to be some kind of sheet metal.
Humorously it has a Maine state quarter in the middle of the glove box knob. I bought from a man in Maine. As amusing as it is to me, I'm going to get a locking knob so it will have to go. _________________ Why is the rum gone?!

I suspect the wood grain laminate has been remove and the dash painted, or it's possible that a black laminate was put on over the metal dash after The black dash started in 1972 through the final year of production in 1974. if you look at the back side of the dash, from the front trunk, you should be able to see what was done. Look for the holes for the insignia. Looks like the inside top of your doors got the same treatment. Also check the back side of the glove box door. You might see overlap of the black laminate or maybe just paint? _________________ Marc

I found these bolts (M10x1.5mm) with parts from a car with an 11/55 front end and the back from a 10/56 car. I've looked through the parts book but can't find them. Anyi ideas |

I thought that too at first but these are 10mm bolts, the parts book says 8mm. Probably not VW |

Those little plates go on the doors and cover the ends of the hinges. I believe 60 was the last year to use them. You should have two per door. |
