I am about to replace the insert trim on my '67 Delux and I was wondering if anyone had some tips on how to make this task go smoothly. Last time I tried it I ended up leaving marks on the insert rubber and my fingers went numb.
Thanks,
Kevin

I just did my 67 deluxe and I used a plastic trim tool and placed the rubber trim into the top of the aluminum and pushed the bottom of the rubber trim piece into the bottom of the alumninum trim.

I've used a credit card, too. It helps if the plastic (trim, not the card!) is as warm as possible so it is flexible.

X2 on the warmth of the insert...leave it out in the sun for a while before you start. Also, and esp. if its warm, avoid stretching it along its length as you insert it, as it will then draw back up afterwards and be too short.

Also, when you cut the ends, a bit of a point will help the end caps keep it in place.

I sacrificed an old, expired credit card and it helped a lot.

Suggestion: Leave the rubber outside under the midday sun for 7-10 days before installation, let it shrink as much as it could before you put it in the trim.

I learned this lesson the hard way when I didn't do that before parking the bus outside. Two weeks later, both ends of the rubber insert just drew back about half an inch.

X2 on the "do not stretch" the insert. I stretched it on mine when I installed and was fine for a few months, then it got cold, and now every piece is way short. I actually brought another insert, and need to redo now.

I just did mine on my '66 13 window
I left it in the bed of my truck which has a topper on it(like a dang oven!!).. Let it sit in there for a few hot days. Made it easier for sure. The credit card trick works well if you can get it down

I put mine in a pan of hot water for a few minutes, used a wooden spatula, went in easy enough

This topic came up today in another thread and I remembered I had some photos of doing my old '64 Deluxe.

Description:
Heating it a little with a hair dryer, then press in with the fat padded end of my wire cutters.

I liked the handle better than a credit card.

Where is a good place to buy this rubber? And what do people feel about this red insert on a Turkis color deluxe?

The red stuff above I bought from Wolfsburg West.

I personally like the green on my green Bus but if you like red better, go for it.

Is there a difference in the Sealing Wax red to the Titan red? I'm sort of color blind, so I don't see the difference well. Which would go on a '66 Deluxe?

There are two options of sealing or Titan on WW, so wasn't sure if much of a difference?

The Titian red is more a blood, SWR more like a tomato (if it helps). The natural compliment to Turkis would be the darker Titian insert, but if people don't already know you're colorblind, they will after the install. Cool

This thread is heavy with warnings about shrinkage, but it is easily combated, simply cram in more insert than you think you can. Example: on a cargo door, if the piece you pre-cut is 1" long, cram a 1/2 inch of it in the molding. You should be able to cram 1/2" of extra material into every 12" of run in the strip. I easily have 5 1/2" of extra material crammed into my long strip on the driver's side. When it shrinks in 40 years, I'm ready.
