Aloha hey I’ve bought a couple of window regulators from bus depot and I have to say I’m less than happy with them they skip and just didn’t hold up. Anyone know if any other companies have better ones ???

While the BD ones fit, I agree, the quality is missing. I had the same symptoms with the last one I installed.

If it is a power regulator look up 16CVs here. He rebuilds them.

I tried several brands - all between marginal and garbage. I gave up and rebuilt my old ones. If you go that route, going through the crank assembly itself is key, no way I could find to clean out the old dried grease without drilling the rivets out, disassembling, cleaning and reassemble with good grease and pop rivets. Along with the GW replacement slider parts they work quite well. I have the GW add-on power window kit (Meh, at best) and if the regulators are not top notch, it doesn't work at all.

This thread might help

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=697812&highlight=window+regulator+manual

from there:

https://www.gowesty.com/product/manual-roll-up/24704/manual-window-regulator-rebuild-kit?v=

I recall trying to transfer parts from a new poor quality regulator to my old one. I ended up buying a used regulator.

It appears gowesty has the parts covered but I wonder if there's anything folks with 3d printers could supply? i.e. what other typical fail points are there in the OE manual regulator?

Neil.
