|
|
I'm taking inventory of issues on a new '86 Vanagon 2wd A/T project and noticed this new-looking bolt with no nut on it. My questions are:
1) What is the thing it's securing to the transmission?
2) Anybody know the size/torque spec offhand?
Thanks!

firstly the thread on that is M10x1.5mm
secondly there is ZERO harm in leaving the bolt the length that it is, IF you are in the rust belt, and it corrodes badly, you may have an issue getting out if and when needed.
thirdly there's a thread on adding a ground wire to a subaru starter, if you grind the area around where that stud pokes through, it's a good spot for a ground wire, l've added starter grounds that way on a few vans now. _________________ markswagen {mobile mechanic} san diego area all early VW's cared for.

Yeah......I was looking at where that bolt would protrude this morning thinking that exact thing, what a great place to put a ground cable.
I may just get a longer bolt and washer and nut....... |
That’s a great idea. While you’re at it, add a positive cable from the starter and shielded post for jump starting from the rear. _________________ 1991 tin top GL
