Back to So Cal?
When was it ever there?
As far as I know it was in Sweden, Phoenix, Nor Cal, and now Central Cal.

Marc sounds like he could put you in touch with the current owner though...

This thread is funny. I just finished rereading it 5 years later now. I remember it being alot more hostile than it is... there must have been another thread that Der Winkermiester and I got into it alittle more. Anyway it funny how this sort of things that was thought to have been soooo far out there 5 years ago has come full circle... But whats even more is that I have an old VolksWorld with a picture of a car in NorCal that is almost a twin for Quintins old split and it had to have been 5 years before Quintin got his. Now look its comon place, so much so that I think building or buying a layed out split is kinda trendy. And Der Winkermiester said the resale value on modified splits would never be very much... LOL... Talk to Rich50 about that. His car has collected close to 200k by now.

I dont think I ever noticed this before but if you click on the gallery button at the bottom of AlanInMass54 and Der Winkermeister posts you come up with the same pictures. Could they have been the same guy all along??? Interesting.

Der Winkermeister wrote: Well, as I said I asked to be respected in what I say while I just did`nt think it`s right to do this to ANY Vintage VW..............it`s just my personal opinion and it was`nt meant to cause this much of a stir as it has.......... seems everyone here get`s in a hissy fit when anyone says something NEGATIVE about their CAL LOOK, RESTO CUSTOM or BAJA?

I meant NO disrespect to the owner at all, this was just an honest opinion held by me and a German collector.........

As for Purists...........

PURISTS don`t let a car sit in a backyard and RUST they MAINTAIN it and DRIVE it! (just to let you all know ok?)

I`ve driven anything from a 1944 Schwimwagen to a late 60`s cars , vintage Karmann Ghia`s and rare coachbuilts.
Owned 1946 thru 67 Beetle`s , driven (THOUSANDS OF KM`S IN EUROPE) and it`s a FAR better experience to DRIVE something that is THE REAL DEAL AND ALL ORIGINAL then something all CUSTOMIZED or well taken from ORIGINAL. (this is JUST my opinion)

If I`d KNOWN the car was a PATCH WORK quilt I would have accepted the fact that it was brought back from junk and spliced together...........that`s better than NOTHING is`nt it? This car was brought FIRST to my attention by a GERMAN collector WHO saw it and made a comment, and I agreed with him about it, and posted.

I just DON`T like to see an EARLY car all CAL LOOKED OUT or some CLUB STYLE custom I don`t go for this on a SPLIT WINDOW/OVAL OR EARLY SQUARE WINDOW car.

I mean I`m sure that PEOPLE will MOCK and BITCH about my ALL ORIGINAL 1960 Euro ragtop with it`s full VDO RALLYE gauges and all ORIGINAL German goodies and Vintage Porsche Rallye equipment, but as it`s all done in EARLY 1960`s parts it`s NOT a CAL LOOK or CLUB CUSTOM car but a vintage styled racing car, but to something to bitch about and well that`s anyone`s open opinion, this (still?) a FREE? country.

Everyone`s entitled to do with it as they like................ RIGHT it`s YOUR car, I just voiced my opinion, and well shook soooo many people up about it...............but it did ANSWER an IMPORTANT question for me though and I can see that NOT too many people here seem to RESPECT nice RESTORED or ALL ORIGINAL cars at all, while a PURIST collector like myself gets so much FLAK from people about an ANTI MOD opinion, I can see how things stand about good ORIGINAL cars, so next BAD CAMBERG meet in Germany, then keep your ASSES at home, we DON`T NEED YOU IN GERMANY TO COME TO ENJOY THE HUNDRED`S OF ALL ORIGINAL CARS OK? Does that sound fair?

Ohhh and Trayle if "BROWN" cars are so common then why is it that I know 2 German collectors LOOKING for 1950`s in that colour (for the PAST 8 months) and all they come up with are Green ones and Black ones????

Get real! all 1950`s ARE RARE NO MATTER WHAT COLOUR AND BROWN IS UNCOMMON ON EUROPEAN CARS BECAUSE THE COLOUR BROWN DIDN`T SELL WELL IN GERMANY DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE COLOUR BROWN WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE NATIONAL SOCIALIST PARTY, NSDAP OR THE NAZI`S AND DIDN`T SELL WELL, so where are all THESE brown cars??????????

And if they are all over the PLACE then let me know where they are all are so that me and my PURIST friends can go and buy them up (PURISTS HAVE the $$$ to restore a car PROPERLY in the FIRST place and well it`s the ever increasing amount of customized and modified cars that HAVE driven THE PRICE of good ALL ORIGINAL cars WAY into the record books, and have made it even harder to find parts for cars while so much has been taken off, thrown away or sold etc.

Well, good thing that you germans gave the rest of the world a name to use on any self-righteous, overinflated people, who mean their opinion is the only one worth thinking of, and anyone who goes against it should be eradicated, isnt it Bob?

53 0val Sun Nov 02, 2008 8:39 pm

Don't put me in there with Winkie; he and I rarely agreed on anything...............I love Resto/Custom............as long as the cars can all be put back to stock with the original parts. (go back and read my posts in this thread....)
