Wow, that is a super bad paint job, I bet it's scary under that paint.
Is it a real '66 slider that's been abused over years? I'm honestly not sure.
I think it's a South American "restoration" that has come to the USA
What I am sure of: The M-Code plate has 100% been reproduced, probably without knowledge of what exactly should be on there.
Wrong fonts, looks like wrong shape, month/day on first row don't match the VIN # :)
His plate:
04 0?
Is that supposed to be 04 O?
O meaning October, not a zero
VIN # 6165420 is from June 1966 so maybe it could be 04 6 on the original M-code plate but not 04 0
A 1966 Kombi wouldn't say BLUE either, only earlier Buses said that.
A '66 Dove Blue Kombi would be 404083 for the paint/upholstery codes on the plate.
Another 1966 Kombi M-code plate example

Yes, I wouldn't assume the entire slider door hasn't been hacked in.
Sliding Door Kombi is sort of unusual if it's legit, the surviving sliding doors mostly seem to be 21-Windows for 1966-67.
Maybe all the Kombis just got lost to usage over the years vs. Deluxes though. |

If that is a legit slider what a shame to do that Brazilian sky light / sunroof hack. At least call Grumpy’s and get an original looking roof. |

No heat tube or holes in the top hats, usually a good indicator of a Brazilian! |

Yes, and the 3rd-world bodywork hackage. The more you look at the pix, the worse it gets. |

I looked through some pics...the w/t bulkhead looks a bit weird. Also no spare tire location in back... I think it was a non w/t originally.
definitely some hackage in this package.
I'm not thinking it's Brazilian though... think it was a sliding door kombi with safaris... |

Yes yes it’s a $4 part. But it’s annoying that someone could look at this and think NOS but not know what WCM is…. Mildly predatory.

Real Talk- what's worse? People labeling new Chinese parts as NOS or someone intentionally photographing used parts on top of an NOS box to give off the impression that the part (in this case almost 160 ads of parts) is NOS?

Gabe is a straight up guy. If he says it's NOS it is. It looks correct in all ways and the key. |

I've done business with Gabe and he is a nice guy. However, The problem is, the handle is not NOS. If it was NOS, Gabe would let you know in the ad that the part is NOS. He uses NOS boxes in his ads and lays used parts on top of the box and doesn't tell you that the part is used, which is the rub.
I wasn't complaining about the part, even though his price for the handle is on the high side. |

I see what you're saying. Sorry. I guess he would a' said NOS plus the numbers on the box don't match. |

I agree it could be confusing and I wonder if anyone has expected NOS even though NOS appears nowhere in the text.
It's skirting the line between the "buyer should knw what they are buying" and "Seller showed something in the ad that was not clear" so...
It's best to avoid any sort of confusion by not doing things like that. |

Looks like that same box is used in a plethora of Gabe's ads.
He lives fairly close to me. Next time I see him I'll give him a thrashing. |

I had a bunch of boxes leftover from NOS parts I'd used, that I'd considered selling, but ended up just tossing them because I knew they'd end up being props, or re-purposed to package repro parts. |
