I just put in some Allure Traffic Master "African Wood". I filled the floor channels with plywood, then more plywood as a subfloor, then installed right over top of that. Sadly, one box - 24 sq.ft. - is not quite enough to do a non-kitchen floorspace all the way under the rear seats. I need about 1/3 of a piece to finish. I also need to come up with something to protect the leading edge. At this point, I am at about $85 all in.

I did not do any sound proofing, and it is a bit louder than with the carpet and underlay that was there before. Not too bad, though. I plan on getting a big mat to keep the kids' muddy boots off, and to use as a camping mat outside the door in summer. This stuff seems to be pretty durable, and it was super easy to install.

it's funny because we put a $20 discounted bundle of flooring in Mom's van once and she bought a $35 carpet to protect it :-k

having a few vans in the family and project stages i always walk past the discounted portion of the flooring isle for the loose matched 2 boxes @ $10ea.

I'm more frugal than fussy.

Bringing up an older thread, I am interested in going with Bamboo floor in my Syncro. When I asked the flooring guy at home depot about it, he said the Bamboo will swell up like crazy once the humidity and moisture hit it. How does Bamboo survive while growing in the water??

Anyway, does anyone have any more long term experience with real bamboo vs laminate? I would like the real thing. I always feel that the laminate is a cheap work around for the real thing.

Alijonny, I am not a flooring guy, but I installed my wood flooring on a subfloor with an 1/8" gap around the edge for swelling. I don't see why bamboo would be any different than another flooring. usually there is a specific gap you should consider specific to each type of floor. Check the packaging for the gap that you need. Don't le that sales person guide you wrong, bamboo it and let us see the picture. I am sure it will be great.

I tried ABS glueing the floor down and applying pressure, but one stupid board came up and I ended up screwing and countersinking the floor to the subfloor. I've installed the same floor re-using the same floor into 3 different van's now.

I've got a 1984 Wolfsburg Westy with tracks for the middle-row seat. I have the seat but never use it in the van.

Wondering how many folks have covered the middle seat tracks and if you regret it down the road?

You can see what I did on the top of page four of this thread. While I did install a rear facing jump seat instead, I have zero regrets about pulling the tracks. You might find it easier to work around them, or simply remove them altogether.

Add us to the club! Finally got around to installing our Pergo on Saturday. We found a plywood subfloor already present, so we just added a layer of underlayment/moisture barrier, and then put down the Pergo XP. Left it floating with a gap for expansion all around, except where we'll install a new edge piece, as the original no longer fits.

I was asked by a sambanite to post how I did the pergo on top of the seat tracks. These pics explain what I did. Basically I made it so I could remove the center section and expose the seat tracks for when I install the single or double seat. The pergo is laid directly on the stock grey floor. The outer two sections are held in place by one flush screw each.

Dobryan,, Thanks so much. That is an excellent idea. I am going to try to do the same. I do not have the plywood and grey flooring, so I'll try to come up with something. Great job. I do not want to get rid of my middle seat, but I just got a jumpseat to play around with the idea. Thanks

Just installed bamboo in the '86 Weekender yesterday. The install was pretty easy, I used the original floor as a template for bolt holes/cutouts. The only real issue I had is that my flooring was thicker than stock- something to watch out for!

Awesome posts. Thanks guy. Any idea about what the square footage is to do everything here? (Have the cabinets out, currently, and wouldn't mind covering the whole thing.

I'm not sure the cabinets will fit correctly if you laminate underneath them. :-k

Hey, thanks Dan. Appreciate the response. Is it not feasible that they could fit in a similar way to the current (stock) flooring as a template for trim and holes?

Admittedly, I'm a total newb at this... But thought that I had seen similar projects in here.

Custom threshold I made for the laminate floor. The leading edge will fit neatly under the existing aluminum threshold.

Now I am going to have to get the wire wheel out and buff the OEM threshold so that it looks good enough to fit with the new threshold.

Heres mine following the blacked/tinted theme I have going. Its a plastic snap together flooring from Home Depot Allure is the brand.
Tossed in a sew fine charcoal 9 piece kit while I was at it.
