That black floor looks cool. Could you post a more wide angle shot of it that shows the whole floor?

Used re-claimed cedar from a barn for the storage area and Laminate with builtin underlay for the flooring.

my cabinets are in the driveway and the floor is bare, ready and waiting.

the old floor is disgusting. i don't want to reuse any of it. there were still puddles of coolant in places!

i have a couple of 8x4 sheets of pretty nice 1/4" birch plywood that were not cheap. i am considering installing one directly, but i am not sure what else is needed between the wood and the floor. some kind of rubber or vibration dampener. i don't have any fatmat on hand, but i do have a very thin plastic/rubber work mat.

i guess like all jobs on the westy, i'll do this three times.

Is anyone adding the expansion gap to their laminate flooring or not? Any issues if you did not leave an expansion gap?

The Allure TrafficMaster I put in my van is giving me a little issue. A few seams want to separate.

I had filler strips in the indentations of the floor for the old middle bench and the stiff foam stuff that was underneath the OE carpet, and went right over the top of that.

Pressed it down well numerous times, but as I said a few seams will lift. It's a little hard to press it well like in the house because the floor offers some give.

When you want to separate this stuff, it sticks like crazy. And in my house it's working great in the bathrooms.

The worst spot is the last full row along the driver-side wall. I think I will try to pull that out and redo it.

Looks good when it's all down, though!

Pulled the last row against the driver's side wall, and replaced with new pieces, cutting better to conform.

I also used a small sledge (through a thick pad) on all the seams.

Now it's tons better.

Be sure to leave a small gap at the ends to allow for expansion when it heats up in the hot sun with windows closed.

Wood doesn't really expand/contract due to heat but rather due to moisture content. Real wood expands perpendicular to the grain of the wood (width changes with no change to the length of the board). Engineered flooring with plies going different directions is pretty much dimensionally stable. Laminate flooring with particle board/fiber board backing is typically more dimensionally stable than real wood, but will expand/contract some every direction.

I laid it directly on the stock rubber topped plywood floor that came with the van. If yours is bare metal, then yes you will need to build up a subfloor.

Stumbled across some discount bamboo at the local home depot. Need to fill the gap between the wood and the metal floor still but using the existing metal bullnose trim is kinda cool too. The middle slides out for access to the fifth seat rails

Put in new vinyl plank flooring over the weekend, very happy with the results. Much easier to sweep out, and the old carpet stank!

The underlayment board was completely shot, so we pulled the old blue carpet and installed this. We found a box of PERGO on the clearance rack at HD for $10, so it is what it is, but I think it came out nice. "Somerset Jatoba" is the color. 8mm x 5" boards - just had to rip a sliver off of the last board and cut a couple of inches off the length. I used the stock threshold.
I put some thermal insulation in between the ridges and some hard plastic sheeting over that. I would have preferred to lay it length-wise for better stability, but I would have had to remove the rear storage area to make that work and that wasn't happening this time.
The wooden cooler was a gift from my Brother-in-law. It kinda sucks as a cooler, but more than makes up for it in cool factor.

jatoba is a type of brazilian hardwood, i just bought an 8quarter piece for some guitars.

Finally finished with the wood floor! Leftover pine wainscoting, stained in 4 different colours, varathane on top.

Okay I'm so doing this when hubbo goes out of town for work. We just got our van and it came with carpeting (fairly new) and rubber matting, blech. We have spare flooring in basement from a recent reno. It's not the best material for a van, probably too soft but it's free and better than a rug.

What should I use for subflooring? The previous owners have done a series of reno's to bring him back to his former glory and I see cut outs near the rubber flooring.

Dumb question, because I'm going to try to do this with hubbo out of town and want to avoid too many power tools, did you have to screw that edging into the tin? Or just the sub-floor? Or just glue it down?
