Can anyone tell me what this top row of text says, especially the last word on the first line? I know it's German, I just want to know what words are there. Actually a picture o that right side would really help.

Not my picture or air cleaner. I want to know what the letters are in the picture.

I Think they are GEGEBENENFALLS or something similar.

Can anyone with a similar label take a picture and send it my way?

I went back through all my air cleaners and found one like that;
BEI STARKEM STAUBANFALL TAGLISH PRÜFEN GEGEBENENFALLS ÖL WECHSELN

Which literally translates to; DUST IN HEAVY ATTACK Taglish CHECK IF NECESSARY CHANGE OIL.

All of the rest of mine say;
BEI STARKEM STAUBANFALL TAGLISH OLWECHSEL SONST ALLE 5000KM
That literally translates to;
DUST IN HEAVY ATTACK Taglish oil change every 5000 km otherwise.

Now are you not glad that we speak English? Knowing German was the original basis of the English language, and by taking something from many other languages we now have the English of today which allows us to explain in great detail instead of generalities what we want to say. There is no translation for Taglish, but tag is day. Being a good German that I am I interpret that as checking your oil bath air cleaner daily under dusty conditions .

Just adding a couple of photos noting 2 small differences in the late oval/early
square window 36hp Mann lid. The first photo is of a 5/57 Mann. The second is
of a 4/58 Mann. There are 2 small differences - The 4/58 has a raised area
where the VW part number is located vs a flat spot on the 5/57 and the MANN
lettering is slightly thinner on th 5/58.

Get a 1966 air cleaner or the 1966 style air cleaner with the post 1967 preheat tube as seen on page one for the post-1968 engines in pre-1967 Beetles.
So are the post '68 in a pre-'67 air filters hard to find/expensive? Would deck lid offsets (hinge or latch type) allow the late model oil baths to fit in a '62? I have the original '62 filter in my car, but mounted on a 34 PICT-3 dual port 1600. It occurs to me that the air cleaner might be a bit restrictive...

The 1966 style air cleaner that is for the later 1600 engines is probably easy to find in Europe.

The 40 HP air cleaner is probably just fine for a daily driver, but would be restrictive for drag racing. Though if drag racing you probably would be running dual carbs or even FI.

The 1300 Air Cleaner is part number 113-129-613F

It was only used in 1966 for the US market, but in Europe a '67 1300 Deluxe was still available, and it continued to use the same 1300 Air Cleaner for one more year.

I have a 65 bug with a dual port 1600 (stock-ish) and have an air filter like the on shown below for a 69. But, the large preheater tube is gone. There is also no place for it to go in the rear tin, but that could be remedied one way or another. My question is, where does this pre-heater tube go one it is through the rear tin that it gets warm air??

The 1300 Air Cleaner is part number 113-129-613F

It was only used in 1966 for the US market, but in Europe a '67 1300 Deluxe was still available, and it continued to use the same 1300 Air Cleaner for one more year.

That tube sucks hot air off the rear of the #2 cylinder. Note the tube is just laid into place and not bolted in correctly.

So ...looks like I have a 1964 air cleaner on my 1966 engine?

I wonder how that happened? Everything else seems to be "normal" for the this original 1300 engine ....Except for the electrical box in the upper left of the pic. Can't seem to figure out what that's all about.

Yes, after all these decades you are lucky to have even that!

Electrical box looks like it might be a electronic coil.

Get new fuel lines in there now!

Get the preheat tube going to the carb or at least block off the hole in the rear tin for now. Any holes or missing seals allow hot air under the engine to be sucked back in and cause higher engine temps.

Block the three holes in the shroud with the stock plugs that also hold the spark plug wires. Those holes are allowing cooling air to leak out, so are as helpful as having holes in a radiator....

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not running the engine right now, so not concerned about the cooling issues. ...it does run, but I plan on re-doing the engine before I put it back on the road ...as well as a body-off rebuild as well. It is a numbers-correct car (body, pan, engine) but it did have pre-66 wheels on it, and wrong front seats, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the air cleaner is wrong!

That's interesting, both the original '66 F case 1300 engines I have came with 113-129-613 E

Do you have a photo of a 613 F? Its not listed in the VW parts pages I listed today.
