That aircon must be pricey. I'd love to get hold of one.

I saw a beetle one for sale recently and the guy was asking over $1600 for the complete unit.

I bet, but thats not bad $1600.

compressors for any car are minimum $500 new run of the mill kind, then add the rest of the bits its adds up fast.

It is a sunroof car! Tram does great work, and his attention to detail is why we all should take lessons! I wish I had a type 3 so I could join this cult...my pregnant roller skate is fun, but stock drivability is impressive!

It's funny how the slight curve of the dash makes everything look a little crooked in a non 3D photo. It's not.

The little chrome thing on the body color bracket at the top of the console right under the A/C unit is a Hella license plate light from a Mercedes w110 bumper. It's the same light as on a 356 or Type 34. I put a green instrument cluster bulb in it and hooked it into the dimmed dash light circuit to illuminate the console face and shift gate at night. It will also work as a "map light". The green bulb made it match the hue of the instrument lighting dead- on. For some reason, it doesn't want to photograph well at night lit up- it just comes out all distorted.

You know....I have literally a bucket of what "seem" to be essentially the same light fixture. I will pull the part # later and toss it up here. They are the license plate lights for some of the early type 4's.

I saved them because ...shape and design wise...they are some of the nicest little light fixtures. Almost automotive art-deco like.

I have been planning...when I get to the interior stage of my 412...to use one on each lower door area for foot lights. In a switched mode they would also be...as you use them for....a great map light or even a heater lever light.

I also have quite a collection of the small 13mm rice grain bulb "swivel ball" heater lever lights that were used in the 411/412....and I think...some of the late model type 3.

Photographing green and some blue lights in the dark...especially with digital is difficult. Its because its a filter created light color. The light speed is mixed....hard to explain. We have the same issues with green/blue machine vision lighting.

What you can do is keep the ASA moderate...dont make it over sensitive (for instance my SLR has red #'s for all ASA over 600 because it starts causing slight aberrations), the lens not full open...in the middle for stops if you have options, use a tripod and use a neutral density filter or UV haze filter and it should sharpen up the green.

What you are seeing is a haze. Your camera is metering for one light color speed and the slower wavelengths are causing essentially a slow exposure.

Alternately...actually it may be easier....set the camera for shutter priority , meter on the green light and then adjust aperture until the rest of the details are clear. The tripod will be necessary because this will probably come out to bee a slow exposure. Ray

It's all either stock VW or period correct aftermarket, like the defroster blower that the console is hiding. Most of it is NOS. The only real "custom fab" things are the console, the motor mounts, the A/C hoses, and the A/C condenser/ thinline fan/ mounting.

Oh, and the fuel tank which is a FI tank with the original fill neck at the right rear cut off and welded shut and an under hood fill neck welded on, so we have all the correct baffles, etc. Pan is from the Automatic donor car and so has all the correct stuff.
